All the fun of the fair awaits in the quirky and unique, fully renovated 1950s fairground travelling-van overlooking the Mawddach Estuary near Dolgellau. Set in the southern reaches of the Snowdonia National Park in Wales, the van has been expertly renovated to provide unusual yet supremely comfortable accommodation in a simply magnificent setting. Perfect for a romantic break for two, the Showman’s Wagon is unlike anywhere you will have stayed before.
From the outside the van retains much of its original fairground character, but on the inside you will find a first class abode with furnishings and features made using local resources by local artists and craftsmen. The bed, for example, was made from an oak tree on the south side of the estuary which blew down in the storms of 2014, that has been transformed into a fabulous piece just perfect for this van turned home.
The wagon kitchen is equipped with a 4 ring gas stove with a grill, an oven and a fridge. There is no dishwasher or washing machine, but who needs to worry about that when you are getting back to nature.
Sleeping two in a double bed, the centrally-heated van also features a sitting room with wood burning stove and a cosy, comfy three seater sofa. Sit back after a hard days exploring and look up to see all the beauty of the night sky through the unique and unusual star gazing window.
The galley kitchen is width restricted but does feature its own cosy dining area. Enjoy a light supper on the bench style seating as you eat at the wooden table, just right for two. The entire living space covers approximately 33 square metres, making it small but perfectly formed. Throughout the van there are an array of decorative nods to the heady days of the circus, and there are lots of lovely vintage bits and pieces, linens and textiles to be found everywhere you look.
The bathroom is bright and modern and has a perfectly practical shower, toilet and wash hand basin, with some colourful accessories thrown in.
Outside, a small enclosed garden faces the estuary and forms the perfect spot for that first morning coffee or a well-deserved supper after the day’s adventures.
Set in amongst woodland, the Showman’s Wagon lies between thepretty market town of Dolgellau and the popular seaside town of Barmouth. It is at the head of the beautiful Cwm-Mynach Valley, which is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists and mountain bikers.
Get out and about to explore the rolling countryside around you, or take a seat on the steps of the wagon and drink coffee for two as you watch the new day dawning.
Whatever you choose to do in this unconventional accommodation, one thing is for sure, you will be astounded by the attention to detail and overall quality of this quirky and cosy renovation.
