This luxurious Edwardian home is tucked away in rural Oxfordshire, in between the picturesque town of Henley-on-Thames and the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sleeping up to 10 guests in the main house and with options for 10 more to stay in the additional annexe and studio (rented separately), it is the perfect accommodation for large groups of family and friends. Woodvale Retreat also benefits from an abundance of outside space, including a large garden and its own 1.5-acre woodland, teeming with a rich diversity of wildlife.
The property has been recently refurbished and finished to a very high standard. Inside you’ll find lots of room for the whole group to unwind, including multiple living areas and five well-sized bedrooms. At the heart of the home is the delightful sitting room, with deep, comfy sofas and armchairs, a smart TV and a wood burning fire. It’s a lovely place for everyone to come together and socialise or settle in for a cosy movie night. Alternatively, the separate snug offers a chance to relax with a good book or enjoy an afternoon snooze. There is also table football to keep guests young and old occupied, and a study with a desk if anyone needed to catch up on some work. Underfloor heating keeps these areas warm all year round.
When it’s time to eat, guests can make use of the modern kitchen’s high-end appliances and spacious worktops to prepare a delicious meal for the group. Adjoining the kitchen is the stylish orangery – a real highlight of the property – which boasts a grand dining table and large windows with gorgeous views across the garden, perfect for dinner parties. Doors from this room lead out to the large patio and garden, ideal for alfresco evenings in the summer months.
All five bedrooms are found upstairs. They include four kings and one twin room, three of which are ensuite. To ensure a sound night’s sleep for all guests, each room has comfy beds with premium mattresses and crisp linen. There is also a shared family bathroom with a free standing bath. Further accommodation is available to rent if needed in the separate studio (sleeping up to six) and additional annex (sleeping up to four).
Woodvale couldn’t be better located as a base from which to experience some quintessentially English countryside. The local area is great for outdoor activities such as walking and cycling, with a vast variety of trails and footpaths nearby in the Chiltern Hills. Any keen golfers in the group will be able to tee off at Henley Golf Course, just a five-minute walk from the house. Also just a short walk away is Henley-on-Thames, which was recently voted as one of the best places to live in the country by The Times. The charming town is full of great pubs, independent shops and eateries, as well as a magnificent gallery showcasing local artists.
