As you make your way through the grand gates and up the tree-lined drive, the stunning Somerleaze House comes into view. Set in 12 acres and clad in limestone, the late-Victorian estate offers luxury, style and an idyllic slice of Somerset life for large groups of friends or family. With enough room for 16 guests in seven bedrooms, it boasts large, glamorous rooms over two floors, as well as a walled garden, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a gym, pristine lawns, ancient trees and even a private beach on the Mells River for those who want to reconnect with nature.
Walk through the grand reception hall and your eyes are greeted with the original Victorian tiled floor. As you follow the grand, pitch pine staircase upwards, the ornate plasterwork of the ceiling comes into view and leaves a lasting impression. The original parquet floor and a mullioned bay window in the kitchen offer extensive views over the gardens and rolling countryside beyond, while grand fireplaces throughout offer the chance to warm cold bones.
At the bottom of the garden through a stand of ancient trees is the Mells River. A heated outdoor swimming pool sits in the Mediterranean-inspired walled garden and is perfect for those who prefer warmer water and to laze away a sunny afternoon. In the evenings or colder months, the large family and media room boasts thick sofas and plenty of space to curl up under a blanket with a movie and popcorn.
The huge, idyllic grounds surround the main house and offer the perfect place to relax, play, unwind or dine alfresco on the terrace. Guests can enjoy the spoils of the organic vegetable patch and extensive greenhouse as you cook up a feast in the fully-fitted kitchen. A wine cellar is perfect for keeping the drinks cool for dinner, while there’s space in the dining room or around the outdoor furniture for all guests.
As the night draws in and you retire upstairs to bed, sink into one of the luxury king size, or double beds, all adorned with thick, plush bedding to drift off under. For younger ones, there are single beds or bunk beds, as well as additional sofa beds for flexibility. Those lucky enough to land the master bedroom experience a luxury, dual-aspect room with a marble fireplace and superb ensuite facilities.
Wake up refreshed and ready to explore stunning Somerset. Somerleaze is a short stroll across the fields from the buzzing market town of Frome with its plethora of independent boutiques, pubs and eateries. For those that love to get amongst nature, there are plenty of river and cross-country walks on the doorstep, as well as direct links to the National Cycle Network just outside the front door. Further afield, the Mendip Hills, Cranborne Chase and the Cotswolds are all within easy reach.
