The Carriage Ely is a labour of love that allows you to enjoy the charm and elegance of travelling first class without leaving the field! Penzance is one of two carriages available and would be perfect for a couple seeking a unique experience in a memorable setting. An additional sofa bed means it can be used by up to four people who are happy to share the space. It is an adults-only retreat with no pets, but if you do fancy this marvellous experience with a dog friend you can enquire about their second carriage, Paddington.
Penzance has been meticulously restored with some added extras to create a luxurious haven at any time of year. The carriage comprises the original train seating with four chairs and a table, perfect for settling in with a drink and pack of cards or a board game with the pretty view of the countryside through the window.
A cosy seating area with a sofa and armchair provides an excellent spot to unwind with a good book or watch a film together on the Smart TV. Beautiful wooden flooring with plush rugs complete this surprisingly spacious lounge area and you'll notice Art Deco inspired touches in the furnishings that hark back to a more elegant time of travel.
At the far end of the carriage is your compact and well-equipped kitchen area with a full sized oven where you can prepare meals to enjoy together at the original carriage seating. And if you really want to recreate the first class experience of the Great Western Railway you can order a lavish afternoon tea to be delivered to you. Think scones with jam and cream, cakes and an array of sandwiches served with a big pot of tea.
When you're ready for bed you'll be delighted by the lush king size bed decked out with a warm feather down duvet and crisp luxurious linens. You'll find bedside tables, hangers and clever storage dotted around for all your bits and bobs. In the morning you can pad through to your bijou bathroom, enjoy a hot shower and freshen up for the day.
Make some coffee, throw open the carriage door and head out into your private sunny garden! You'll find seating and a sun lounger where you can relax and enjoy the fresh air in glorious peaceful surroundings. A wonderful extra is the hot tub which is under cover so you can enjoy it in any weather. The hosts have provided big hot tub towels so you can enjoy a good bob around with a glass of something delicious before wrapping yourself up and drying off in the sun.
Enjoy some picturesque strolls right from your doorstep or make the short five-minute drive to the bustling city centre of Ely where you can walk along the river, visit the famous Ely Cathedral and have a look around Oliver Cromwell's house. Pop into The Standard, a 15th century pub serving good food and if you like your beers Drayman's Microbrewery is a great night out. For lunch by the water visit the Riverside Bar & Kitchen. And if you fancy something classic with a cathedral view book a table at The Almonry Restaurant & Tearooms.
