Get Away Hide Away is an entirely off-grid glamping site in rural Norfolk that invites you to surround yourself with nature. There are two beautifully converted wooden horse lorries creating cosy hideaways for couples and families. You also have the option of booking the entire two acres of wild meadow that make up the site for groups of up to 14 with four additional tents. Deep in Norfolk’s countryside, near the tiny hamlet of Elsing, you’ll find yourself far from the hustle and bustle sharing the meadows with deer, red kites, owls and badgers.
Each of the horse lorries is set within its own half acre of wildflower meadow that you’ll find bursting with fascinating flora and fauna. One of the lorries, Dixie, was a traditional wagon-style vehicle with a curved roof and plenty of character in the decoration and woodwork. Step inside and you’ll find a cosy living space with a large sofa and a wood burner to keep you cosy whatever the weather. There’s also a well equipped kitchenette with room for a Belfast sink, an oven and a fridge.
You also have the option of cooking outside on the large firepit which is surrounded by plenty of seating and complete with a custom griddle and BBQ tools. There’s a second outdoor seating area on the covered first floor deck to the side of the lorry. This is the perfect spot to sit and watch the wildlife exploring the meadow. When it’s time for bed, climb the old library ladder to reach the king size bed or set up the sofa bed. You’ll find the bathroom facilities in a cabin to the side of the lorry with a luxurious walk-in shower and a composting loo.
Douglas is a 1976 Bedford horse lorry, thoughtfully restored and converted into eco-friendly accommodation for up to four guests. Inside the lorry, you’ll find a well equipped kitchenette with four hobs and an oven, or you can cook outside over the firepit. On sunny days, open up the French doors to extend your living space to the decking outside with solar powered lights allowing you to stay out late into the evening. During the cooler months, stay cosy inside with the wood burner keeping the space toasty and you can enjoy the fantastic views in comfort.
There’s a super king size bed tucked away above the cab and a second smaller bed beneath this, suitable for a child. If you need some more sleeping space, you can use the sofa bench seat in the living area if you bring some extra bedding with you. Just a few steps away from the lorry, you’ll find two little cabins, one containing a shower and the other a compost toilet.
There’s plenty to do in the area, from exploring the historic hamlet of Elsing with its medieval manor house to wandering down one of the many public footpaths into Norfolk's countryside. There are three local pubs that make for good pit stops on long walks and you can head even further into the countryside by bike. Hire a boat for the day and explore the Norfolk Broads or head out to the coast to see the seals at Horsey Gap.
