Park House is both impressively historic and very homely with lots of communal spaces for socialising together and little nooks and crannies where you can hide away with a good book. This marvellous home really is ideal for big family celebrations, reunions and retreats.
This wonderful house has been family owned for 400 years and every room is warm and welcoming. On arrival you might like to gather in the drawing room with a glass of wine or some celebratory fizz and get a feel for this perfect country escape. Big leather sofas and soft cosy seating by a crackling open fire will start the holiday in style. There's also a morning room and a conservatory, equally lovely where you can laze about, play board games or admire the gardens.
For intimate suppers and big breakfasts the fantastic kitchen with its blue Aga and two big tables is an ideal spot. Warmed by the Aga and very cosy, it's a place for big bowls of soup and endless cups of tea. And when it's time for the fine dining you'll have everything you need to prepare an absolute feast which you can all enjoy in the breathtaking library dining room. This book-lined space with rugs and warm lighting has one large oval table and a smaller round table and seats up to 30 in comfort. Think of the sound of clinking glass by candlelight and you get the idea.
There are six luxurious bedrooms all with whimsical names like Jolly Monks and Cobbler. Four have ensuites and there's a family bathroom too so no need for long queues in the morning. The hosts can provide extra beds and cots for the little ones and there's a charming nook called Pooh's Corner with two sofa beds also.
On a summer morning you'll want to take your coffee outside and enjoy the glorious grounds. There's lots of outside furniture for alfresco dining in the main garden and the kids can spend hours playing hide and seek, kicking a ball about on the football field or enjoying a spot of croquet on the lawn. There are also plenty of enclosed spaces where you can let the dogs run free and wild.
For fun days out visit Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury or take it easy on one of the beautiful local beaches such as Burnham-on-sea, Brean and Kilve beach. If you fancy eating out the hosts have plenty of recommendations including Red Tile Inn close to the estate which is a friendly pub with good food, The Pig & Wheel Pub which has fabulous views and is dog friendly, and the Bower Inn in Bridgewater, an 18th century pub serving great food that is also dog friendly.
