The detail

This impressive, delightfully spacious detached house is located in a prime spot on the Somerset/Wiltshire border. Sleeping up to 12 people in five bedrooms, and boasting fantastic grounds, it’s the perfect choice for a country get together with the family.

The light and airy property has been tastefully decorated in calming, neutral tones. Downstairs, you’ll find a huge, open plan living area, which is perfect for bringing the whole family together. This sociable space forms the heart of the house and is plenty big enough for everyone to enjoy.

The welcoming lounge area is decked out with comfy sofas and a wood burner to keep you cosy on chilly evenings. With large windows overlooking the lush, green grounds, it’s the ideal spot to relax and catch up, whilst enjoying your wonderful surroundings.

The contemporary kitchen is fully fitted with everything you’ll need to feed the family, including an electric oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer and coffee machine. It also features a breakfast bar and large table for informal dining.

Stepping out onto the delightful, wraparound decked terrace, you’ll be treated to the sound of bird song and fantastic woodland views. This spacious, outdoor paradise, with its wooden dining table and chairs, is all set for alfresco dining, whether you’ve cooked up a storm in the kitchen or flame-grilled a feast on the BBQ.

The garden itself is refreshingly natural with sloping grounds, enchanting woodlands and even a small river to discover. Children young and old will love an outdoor adventure in their own private grounds, and the undercover hot tub, with its impressive views, can be enjoyed whatever the weather.

When the sun sets and sleep beckons, the five elegantly furnished bedrooms, complete with sumptuous linens, have been designed to optimise a good night’s rest. There’s a king size with ensuite, two doubles, a twin, and a room that sleeps four. You’ll also find a wet room with a shower and WC on the ground floor and a family bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC on the first floor.

Wykeham House is tucked away in a peaceful area just a mile from the nearest shop, pub and restaurant. With two counties on your doorstep, there’s plenty to explore in the surrounding area. If you fancy a flutter on the horses, Wincanton Racecourse is directly adjacent to the property; the Hauser & Wirth arts centre is a few miles away, and Longleat Safari park, Cheddar Gorge and the coast are all less than an hour by car.

I would highly recommend a stay at Wykeham House. We booked 2 nights for 12 adults and 2 dogs. First impressions - the area of Wincanton is lovely and the house is situated in a secluded area looking over a small valley which is gorgeous. There was plenty of parking for our 5 cars and heaps of space for the dogs to run around (they had a great time). The house itself is spacious and airy, but also cosy at night with heated floors in the living area! We had everything we needed for our stay, even the little things that you sometimes miss — toiletries in bathrooms, plenty of towels, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, bin bags, plenty of fridge and freezer space too. The only things we needed to bring were food and drink, to which there was a supermarket just up the road. On our first night we had a BBQ on the deck and jumped in the hot tub afterward, it was great! The hot tub tub is situated up the path, separate to the house. It overlooks the valley and has a little bar/seating area next to it, it was a perfect socialising space. The beds were very comfy and the house was spotless. Tim was a welcoming host and made sure that we had everything we needed, we really loved our stay and would definitely consider coming back.
