Set amidst an acre of land and perfectly positioned in front of woodland, Mendip House is as pretty as a home gets. This stone built beauty has the perfect balance of country cottage grandeur alongside warm and welcoming interiors. The artistic owner has obviously poured a lot of love into this gorgeous home and it really shows. With wonderfully eclectic styling, rambling gardens and inspirational views, Mendip House is a holiday retreat with real heart.
Downstairs is partially open-plan with a dining and sitting room that leads on to an open snug. The rooms are wonderfully sociable and make the perfect backdrop to cosy nights in with friends or family. Relaxed styling is abundant throughout with large comfortable sofas, feature artwork and beautiful textiles. The snug is unashamedly cosy with a wonderful dark blue colour scheme and a great selection of books and board games. And the dining/sitting room and snug happily share a gorgeous double open fire - perfect for any winter time soirees.
The slightly separate kitchen characterfully houses all the pots, pans and crockery that you’ll need during your stay. With hand painted units, a double Belfast sink, beautiful stone floors and perfectly styled kitchenware, it’s a delightful room to cook in (or to just sit and have a cup of tea in). And the large hatch space into the dining room keeps it suitably sociable.
There are three double bedrooms and one triple bedroom. One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor (perfect for any less mobile members of your party). All of the bedrooms offer the same perfectly relaxed styling with large comfortable beds, beautiful textiles and one-off pieces of furniture. And soft colour schemes, twinkling lights and stunning artwork keep them all gorgeously unique. The top bedroom sleeps three people with a double and single bed - there’s also a comfy seating area and large ensuite bathroom.
The large family bathroom is on the first floor. It’s a bright room with a striking freestanding bath, large walk-in shower and beautiful tiled floor. And the large sash window offers up the most wonderful view.
Outside you’ll discover a pretty terrace and gardens. The patio, with its large dining table and festoon lighting is the ideal space for sunset drinks - and the warming fire basket ensures you can carry on late into the evening. The rambling garden offers up private nooks, comfortable hammocks and striking views - there’s even a vegetable patch and space to put up a couple of tents.
The location of Mendip House is as perfect as the view. The local medieval village of Axbridge is home to a pretty square with plenty of restaurants and pubs to discover. On the first Saturday of the month there’s a lovely Farmers Market - where you can indulge in a veritable smorgasbord of local produce. With easy access to the Mendips and the Somerset Levels, there’s lots to keep any walkers in your party happy. Venture a little further to discover the delights of Cheddar Gorge and the iconic Glastonbury Tor.
