This picturesque, secluded and rustic thatched cottage nestled in the heart of rural Sussex sleeps ten in total, eight in the house and two in the bijou outside hut bedroom. Overall, there are five bedrooms (four doubles and two singles), one bathroom and a separate loo, plus a shower and loo in the separate outside hut. However, during the colder months the outside hut bathroom will not be working due to the high risk of the pipes freezing. The attic twin bedroom is accessed via steep and narrow steps.
Accessed through woodland, along a private track, this stunning cottage feels marvellously remote, and is surrounded by large gardens and a lovely pond.
This wonderfully preserved property will make you feel like you've stumbled into an Austen book and you'll be charmed by the care taken to capture the essence of its era. Gather in the big country kitchen with its beamed ceiling and sit around the farmhouse table with its mismatched chairs for a welcome drink, and discuss which bedroom you're going to claim.
All of the rooms are comfortably furnished with beautiful antiques alongside more modern pieces. The owners were determined to use only quality materials, fixtures, and fittings in its renovation, so you will find reclaimed and antique finds (many sourced from nearby Ardingly Antiques) that look right at home alongside mid-century inspired lighting, velvet sofas, and stylish linen bedding. There are lovely historical details wherever you look, from the ancient beams to the original floorboards and vaulted ceilings.
The inglenook fireplace is delightfully cosy and you can spend your evenings gazing into the flames or reading a book with a glass of wine whilst someone takes advantage of the very well stocked kitchen to prepare a feast.
Despite its historic bearing the cottage has excellent WiFi and when it's time for bed you'll find luxury iron stead beds with good mattresses and quality linen bedding. This is the kind of place that will remind you of a slower pace of life. Maybe sit at one of the small antique desks and write a proper letter and pop a stamp on. Or read some poetry. Or make a pot of tea and eat some cake whilst staring at the view.
The huge garden blends into serene woodland and is perfect for a lazy afternoon BBQ which you'll find situated by two benched tables beneath the trees.
When it comes to heading out, the chalky hills of the South Downs and the Ashdown Forest are not far away for beautiful walks. Brighton, with its fantastic seafront and many restaurants, is within striking distance. Lewes is a 30-minute drive, and here you can browse the cafes and antique shops or visit the local independent cinema. The village of Turners Hill, on one of the highest points of the Sussex Weald, offers views of both the North and South Downs. The village centre has been designated a conservation area – and despite its small proportions, it's the proud owner of no less than three pubs to enjoy after a long walk. Tulley's Farm - five minutes away has something for all ages, from an escape room, drive-in cinema, and PYO pumpkins around Halloween.
However you choose to spend your time, Coldharbour Farmhouse is a truly idyllic and relaxing getaway and you'll want to stay forever.

Leave a reviewWow. What a magical home. Woodlanders Cottage is an absolute fairytale home tucked within a woodland off from the main road. From the moment we arrived it felt special. The house has been so carefully, sensitively and tastefully renovated to such a high quality and I could not fault a thing! We are already planning our next reason to visit. It was the perfect house for our girls weekend away from London enjoying the sunny deck and garden. The house is full of quirks and character which we absolutely loved. Really well equipped kitchen and we could not have asked for anything more. I'd highly recommend this home to anyone (just be aware of the low cielings and 'mind you head' reminders if you are tall!) Thanks for having us!

We had an absolutely fantastic time here for a 50th Birthday treat. The cottage is really special. It's clear a lot of attention has gone into every detail. Everything was provided as described. Super comfy beds and plenty of space for our large group. The surrounding grounds are quiet and very peaceful, with a whole variety of wildlife to enjoy. This is a perfect retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle. Although we stayed in summer, I can imagine the cottage would be really cosy in winter too. Wi-Fi was very good throughout as advertised, and the supplied guide book gave us lots of good suggestions for local walks and attractions. We visited the nearby Abbey, which has some wonderful views and is well worth a visit. Communication with the owner was excellent and very responsive. Highly recommended and would definitely stay again. Thank you Effie!

We had a fabulous time at Woodlanders Cottage, there were 8 of us altogether (two families of four) and both the adults and children loved it. For being so close to London, we found the setting to be the complete opposite. Set in beautiful woodland with lots of space for exploring and games we felt that we were in the middle of the countryside. The house is idyllic to look at and has been restored in a way that retains its original charm. The house is well stocked with all you will need and was extremely clean and snug. The weather was good so we dined outside during the day, but had cosy dinners inside with the fire on when the spring evening chill arrived. Without hesitation, we would recommend to others and definitely hope to return for a future quick getaway from London. Many thanks for having us!
