Arrive at Lake House and feel as though you’ve stepped into the heart of something beautifully untamed. Tucked deep within the rewilded grounds of Crafted at Powdermills, this spacious five-bedroom retreat offers a big-group escape where nature is not only the backdrop but the beating heart of your stay. Here, 78 acres of restored wildland surround you – ancient woods thick with birdsong, restless meadows alive with insects and colour, and a seven-acre lake that acts as the estate’s shimmering centrepiece. It’s a place where silence isn’t empty but humming with life, and where time drifts at the pace of water, wind and wildlife.
Inside, Lake House feels warm, generous and wonderfully sociable. A fully equipped kitchen and adjoining dining room make hosting effortless, with space for 10 to gather over long dinners and late conversations. The main lounge is all about sinking into sofas, letting shoulders drop and settling into a slower rhythm, while a cosy snug with a smart TV gives you a quiet corner when you need it. A bright conservatory with a pool table keeps the energy up on rainy afternoons or post-dinner evenings when the competitive streak comes out.
Sleeping 10 across five bedrooms, the house is arranged for comfort and ease. Downstairs, a soft and restful king size room sits beside a separate WC. Upstairs, a second king size, a bunk room, and two ensuite bedrooms offer privacy for families or groups of friends, with a shared family bathroom featuring both a separate shower and a deep soaking bath for unhurried evening rituals.
Step outside and you’re met with peaceful lakeside views and a sense of space that invites you to slow down. The tiered garden is yours to enjoy, with places to sit, relax and take in the surroundings at your own pace. A private pool (open May to September) offers easy summer afternoons, while the pool house with table tennis adds a bit of light-hearted fun. The patio has a gas BBQ and plenty of room for relaxed alfresco meals as the day drifts on.
During your stay you can also join a range of nature-led experiences on-site. Guided walks, creative workshops, wellness sessions and outdoor activities all take their cue from the woodland, water and wildlife that shape the estate. Crafted at Powdermills is built around restoration, with lakeside hot tubs and a sauna, and a rewilding approach that encourages birds, wildflowers and animals to flourish. Beyond the estate, Sussex offers rolling countryside, walking trails, pretty villages, wineries and an easy reach to the coast. But with so much natural beauty on your doorstep, many guests choose to stay close and simply enjoy the setting.
