Clifftop Cornish cottage with a stone spiral staircase and a private observation tower looking out to sea
Brought to you in association with Trinity House, the Lizard Lighthouse is located on the Southern-most tip of mainland Britain. With six adjacent cottages offering stunning accommodation in a truly magnificent location, Wolf Rock tops them all with access to the unused West Tower, adding extra space and a ton of character.
The most prominent feature of this cottage, is without a doubt the 32 stone spiral steps that offer access to the observation tower with some of the most magnificent sea views to be found on the Peninsula. With a modern and stylish interior throughout, Wolf Rock is the perfect place from which to gaze out to sea. The working lighthouse next door will occassionally make it’s presence felt with a blast from it’s distinctive and automatic 3 mile fog signal if conditions are misty.
The kitchen is large and fully fitted with an electric oven and hob, a fridge freezer, a dishwasher, a washer/dryer and a microwave. There is also a dining table in the kitchen, which is just perfect for enjoying a quick and easy breakfast.
The living room is bright and airy, with deep comfortable sofas ready for relaxing in after a busy day exploring this corner of Cornwall. With leather sofas, a fireplace and a TV, get together for a chat or continue to capture the stunning views that can be seen from the living room window. Vintage touches add a retro vibe to this beautiful living room in a unique location.
The main dining area sits at the base of the tower, and just underneath the spectacular stone spiral staircase. This feature really makes you feel like you are living in a lighthouse, and is unlike any other property in the area. Imagine eating a meal with friends and family here, as your laughter reverberates around the high ceiling, while you listen to the waves crashing just outside your door.
The bedrooms at Wolf Rock are all simply stunning with cool cotton linens, wooden floors or quarry tiles and solid oak furnishings throughout. From the good size double bedroom and twin bedroom on the first floor, to the twin bedroom with ensuite on the ground floor, you will sleep like a baby whichever room you chose.
Both bathrooms are modern and well designed. The ground floor family bathroom has a bath with built in overhead shower, a toilet and a hand basin. Soft towels and contemporary styling will help you to relax in a hot bath after a chilly day at sea. The ensuite has a power shower to wake you up in the morning.
The observation room is at the top of the spiral staircase. Why not enjoy a cup of tea while you watch the waves roll out at sea, or watch the sun go down, before desending the spiral staircase for a meal with friends and family.
Outside the property there is an enclosed courtyard garden, where you can lean out and see the sea, or catch a glimpse of the rare and beautiful flora and fauna that help to make this cliff top location particularly special.
The nearby Lizard Village provides shops, restaurants and a friendly pub, and is only a short ¼ mile distance away. Lizard Lighthouse is a fully working lighthouse, first established in 1619. The distinctive two white towers that it is known for today were built in 1751 by private entrepreneur Thomas Fonnereau, and first lit on 22 August of that year. Trinity House gained control of the lights in 1771 and continues to look after its operation to this day. It became electrified in 1924 and then fully automated in 1998.
The site is also open to the public for lighthouse tours, so why not pop in and see your nearest neighbour up close. The Lizard Peninsular is one of the most popular destinations in the area, and is perfect for visiting places like St. Michael's Mount, St. Ives and Mousehole.
Wolf Rock is listed in affiliation with Rural Retreats.
