Pauntley Court is an historic and truly magical place to escape to in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside. Offering plenty of privacy and seclusion, the ground and cottages create a truly charming atmosphere for visitors to this stunning part of the country. It is an enchanting house to stay in and was once described by Poet Laureate, John Masefield as ‘a place of great beauty and strangeness’
The Dovecote itself is one of two self catering cottages set in the grounds of Pauntley Court and has been renovated to an extremely high standard.
Dating back to 1300s, the Dovecote has kept many of its original features and has been carefully converted into a beautiful two double bedroom house, perfectly combining natural rustic features with the very best of modern comfort and luxury.
Upon your arrival, you will instantly be transported back to a time of castles and kings. From your first entrance through the heavy wooden door into the first floor halfway, you will already get a real sense of the history behind this unique three storey property.
The middle floor offers an open plan sitting room, kitchen and dining area with windows built into the thick ancient walls on all sides, affording excellent view from all angles. The seating area has comfortable sofas and a wood burner for warming cold hands on chilly winter days. There is also a 49inch flat screen TV, with a sound bar and sub woofer, blu-ray DVD player and a blue tooth hi-fi, ensuring that you never miss out on modern home comforts even in this charming historical hideaway.
The heavy wooden dining table is perfect for four and a very regal place to read the papers as you enjoy a lazy breakfast before starting your day.
The kitchen is fully fitted with a fridge, dishwasher, Nespresso machine and an electric oven. With solid wood flooring, wooden work surfaces and heavy oak shutters at the windows you will certainly feel the history of the house even whilst making a light snack or a cup of tea.
The ground floor is home to a super-king bed with its own en-suite bathroom complete with under floor heating and a walk in shower. A large stable door gives you private ground floor access to the garden, whilst the dressing room area leads you up the stairs up to the middle floor. Your own private hideaway, the ground floor bedroom is resplendent with solid stone walls, stone flooring and beams up above.
The second bedroom is located upstairs on the third floor and also offers a super-king sized bed. With a freestanding bath in the bedroom, you will find that all of your dreams of royal grandeur have come at once. Relax in the tub, in a room made of solid brick walls, and your very own bathing platform for a real break away from the daily grind. There is also a bathroom with a walk-in shower and under floor heating adjacent to this bedroom.
Outside the Dovecote there is a charming walled garden, as well as a sunken garden has an ornamental pond surrounded by beds of tulips, alliums and roses. At the back of the main house is the ruin garden, where foundations of a great house planned by the Somerset family, have been planted in yew.
The Dovecote is located in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside within easy reach of the market towns of Newent and Ledbury, the spa towns of Malvern and Cheltenham and the cathedral cities of Gloucester and Hereford, and Tewkesbury Abbey. The village of Pauntley is close to the Cotswolds, and yet gives you access to some wonderful walking areas including the Malvern Hills.
