In the grounds of the four hundred year old St Giles estate, Riding House is a large property which has been painstakingly renovated. Sleeping sixteen guests between eight bedrooms, each with their own en-suite bathroom, Riding House is the perfect accommodation solution for larger groups looking to spend time in Dorset while staying in a well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing piece of English history.
Riding House is a freestanding annexe in the five hundred acre St Giles estate, the ancestral seat of one of England’s oldest and most celebrated families. Internal and external renovations have been carried out to ensure that the property is comfortable and luxurious for twenty-first century guests without compromising the charm and style which went into the design and construction of this splendid house, formally a stable block. Internally, the main living space is a double-height central room, characterised by exposed beams and floors of seasoned hardwood, creating a sense of grandeur, history and rusticity. Sumptuous and period-appropriate soft furniture abounds, making this living room the ideal place to curl up after supper with a glass of wine for an extended conversation with the friends, family, or other couples who you’ve chosen to share the trip with.
Guests with an interest in English history will be fascinated by the events which have taken place in and around the estate since the 17th century. Riding House is an award-winning one of a kind accommodation experience, where you and your guests can take part in a range of outdoors activities and enjoy sumptuous and varied feasts cooked up by the long-standing in-house catering team on the estate. Everything from traditional hawking to more contemporary mushroom hunting can be arranged with experts, taking place in the grounds of the estate and focusing on historic English rural pursuits. After the events of the day, relax with a cocktail and a game of billiards in an authentic seventeenth century drawing room, and plan the next day’s activities, whether they be archery lessons or buggy-racing through the woods, before sinking into a luxurious double bed in a private bedroom after a long soak in an antique bath tub.
Dorset is regarded as one of the most exquisite regions of England, drawing artists, writers, and outdoors enthusiasts from around the world. The Jurassic Coast is a favourite with everyone from fossil enthusiasts to young families, while the natural limestone arch of Durdle Door has impressed generations. One activity worth visiting nearby is the annual Dorset Chilli Festival, which takes place in August. Also investigate the multiple classical musical events taking place at the main house at St Giles, where world-class music can be heard in some truly unique surroundings.
