The Details

Get a ruddy glow and a down-to-earth feel when you stay at this working farmstead in the rural welsh fields. Sitting three miles away from the historic town of Hay on Wye, Drover's Rest is a real salt of the earth hideaway. Here you can pick apples from the orchards or eggs from the hens before meeting the myriad of furry farmyard friends. Magical woodlands and babbling brooks adorn the rich pastoral scenes, while lambs, chickens and cows roam free for all to see.

The Shepherd's Shack has been beautifully restored, showcasing original features with luxurious additions. Lime-washed walls and open fires create a traditional earthy character and are joined by flagstone floors and country-style kitchens. A double feature alongside a cosy twin rooms which are furnished with designer bedding and Welsh woollen throws.

The serene area surrounding the farm is full of natural jewels and includes the striking Brecon Beacons and the lush Black Mountain peaks. Hike amongst the rolling hillsides or canoe down the meandering rivers and you’ll be rewarded with blissful rural scenes. Closer to home you can check out the cute little pigs or the frolicking lambs, before grooming the ponies and mucking in on the land. With all sorts of farmyard activities to keep you entertained, it has everything you need for a family break.

A large communal barn is also on hand for rainy days and has Sky TV, a games console and an interesting array of books and games. Homemade group dinners are cooked here three days a week, including pizza night, curry night and BBQ feasts. If you can tear yourself away then the small literary town of Hay on Wye is also well worth a visit and is renowned for being the much-loved National Book Town of Wales.
