Tucked away in the Cornish countryside near Falmouth, Penpoll is a charming holiday cottage converted from part of a farm’s old dairy barn. It’s set around a pretty courtyard amongst other holiday homes with access to a range of facilities from a large swimming pool to a sauna and a games room. Spend your days exploring some of the best beaches in the country, learning to surf, enjoying long walks along the coast and tucking into the freshest seafood. Relax back at Penpoll with a dip in the cottage’s own hot tub and a cocktail in your private courtyard garden.

The cottage has a warm and welcoming feel with an open plan living and kitchen space downstairs furnished in a contemporary style. You’ll find everything you’ll need in the kitchen, including a dishwasher and a coffee machine. After dinner, head straight over to the living space where you can snuggle up on the comfy sofa and get stuck into a board game or a movie on the smart TV.

The two bedrooms are upstairs, comfortably sleeping up to four guests. Both of the rooms can be set up with luxurious super-king size beds or with twin singles offering plenty of flexibility. The main bedroom is a lovely light-filled room thanks to a roof light and both bedrooms have their own ensuite shower rooms.

Outside, you’ll find your own cosy courtyard space with outdoor furniture so you can sit outside and enjoy a morning coffee or a glass of something in the evening. This is also where you’ll find Penpoll’s private hot tub, perfect for a post-surf dip or to help any sore legs recover from a long walk along the coast. You’ll have access to a shared heated outdoor swimming pool from April to September as well as another hot tub and a sauna. There’s also a communal games room with table tennis, pool and table football as well as board games and books. You’ll find a play area with swings, a slide, a trampoline and plenty of space for the kids to run around in a meadow near the cottage.

The cottage is located in the countryside just outside the village of Mawnan Smith and a 10-minute drive from Falmouth. This bustling harbour town is the perfect place to start exploring the area with art galleries, cosy cafes, independent shops and even a historic castle to visit. For a day at the beach, head down to Gyllyngvase or Swanpool where you can swim or try a range of watersports from sailing to surfing. You can hop on a ferry to the nearby St. Mawes where you’ll find more beautiful beaches and St. Mawes Castle, one of Henry VIII’s coastal artillery forts. The Eden Project is a little further afield but well worth the drive for a fascinating day out.
