Built in 1320 this characterful old house has exposed timber beams wherever you turn, 12 foot high vaulted ceilings and cosy delightful rooms. It would be a wonderful choice for anyone wanting to stay in a truly lovely piece of history in the heart of Rye.
This house is the best blend of beautifully preserved history with modern luxurious amenities. From the outside you'd think it was an old inn, or museum, but inside you'll find glorious original features framing a fully modern high-end kitchen with an Elica induction hob and double ovens, a Nespresso machine and everything you could need to prepare a feast to be enjoyed at the six-seater dining table in the open beamed living room.
Dark wood prevails with matching furniture, a comfy sofa and seating, and a gorgeous inglenook fireplace creating a warm and welcoming area to unwind with a drink and soak up the atmosphere. The room has its original exposed timber beams made of disassembled ships, a reminder of its time as a tavern that welcomed returning mariners.
You'll have three extraordinary bedrooms to choose from. Two are doubles and one is a twin, perfect for kids or friends sharing. The main bedroom boasts a 12-foot vaulted ceiling with views of St Mary's church, and all three rooms have comfortable mattresses and high-quality linens that will make you feel like you're in a completely different time.
After a restful night, you'll have two modern bathrooms to choose from. One has a free-standing bathtub where you can make use of complementary toiletries and soak in the bubbles after a long day of exploring and beach combing. The other has a large marble walk-in rainforest shower to blast the sleep away.
Head back down through the wonky corridors and crooked stairs, to the kitchen for that first coffee as you make your plans for the day.
Hucksteps is centrally located and ideal for exploring Rye's cobbled streets on foot. You'll find plenty of period architecture and literary associations, as well as a stunning coastline. If you fancy a day of swimming and sandcastle building, Camber's sandy beaches are an easy walk, cycle or drive from the town centre. Rye's High Street has plenty of independent shops and tea rooms for you to visit. As well as inns, restaurants, the Kino cinema and the Rye Spa Retreat if you're seeking a bit of pampering. The hosts recommend The Fig for a healthy and delicious evening meal, or take away fish and chips from Marino's to enjoy in your 700 hundred year old digs whilst watching a movie on the smart TV!
