Beautiful farm and lake views await guests at Abhainn Ri, a Victorian farmhouse bed and breakfast in Ireland’s picturesque County Wicklow. Just an hour’s drive from Dublin, the countryside setting is a stunning reason to stay, and the accommodation is 5* quality, plus there’s some tempting home-cooked food to look forward to.
The 100-acre working farm with a lake and mountains beyond is wonderful for walkers and animal lovers. You will see goats, sheep, ponies, hens and more during your stay, which you are welcome to visit or meet on a special farm tour. The B&B’s luxurious guest sitting room enjoys views of the lake too.
Each room has plenty to love, with elegant soft furnishings, comfy king-size beds, bathrobes and amenities like tea and coffee. Bathrooms come equipped with a power shower, heated towel rail and high-quality toiletries – always nice to make use of on arrival.
Your options are many and varied at breakfast time, with traditional Irish specialities and local twists on international favourites – there’s waffles, porridge, organic smoked salmon, eggs from the farm and a whole lot more on the menu. Homemade bread and scones and the Irish Farmer’s Breakfast provide more incentive to make an early start, and you can even enjoy Afternoon Tea at Abhainn Ri – the perfect treat for a special occasion.
All kinds of optional extras are available to guests, including bread-making classes, speciality coffees and hot chocolate, and sandwiches if you fancy heading out for a long walk and a picnic.
The farm’s proximity to Blessington Lakes makes it easy to take a boat out or try a bit of fishing, and County Wicklow has a host of historic homes and gardens to visit, including Avondale, Powerscourt House, and Russborough House just five minutes away.
More family-oriented attractions can be found at the Chocolate Garden of Ireland, Straffan Butterfly Farm or the Lullymore Heritage Park, while the attractive Wicklow coast is around an hour’s drive away, on the far side of the Wicklow Mountains National Park. It’s only 20 minutes to the light rail service which runs into the city of Dublin, allowing you to leave the car behind and enjoy all the capital has to offer, like the National Art Gallery, Guinness Visitor Centre and the Botanical Gardens.
