Yew Tree has an impressive history with medieval roots beautifully preserved and showcased with stunning interior design. The farmhouse is large and spacious with plenty of shared living space and would be ideal for up to seven people seeking a tranquil holiday in the serene Cumbrian countryside.

The first port of call in this delightful home should be the large kitchen and dining room which is clearly the heart of this house with its iconic four-oven Aga warming the space and pretty views of Blencathra. The kitchen is fully equipped and also has an American fridge freezer with an ice maker, as well as a gas hob and electric double oven and everything you'll need to cook some memorable meals. Upon arrival you'll find a welcome hamper in here to get you started.

When the food is ready, you have a choice of three dining areas! Enjoy a bustling breakfast in the sun room with the morning light streaming in and views of the Pennine Hills, have lunch in the garden with the resident squirrels and enjoy a long candlelit supper in the medieval dining room, where you'll find a fabulous antique dining table seating up to eight. The table sits next to a cosy fire creating a warm and memorable ambience during your stay. The hosts have provided a vintage drinks cabinet making this an excellent spot to gather for a pre-dinner cocktail!

The ground floor is home to two beautiful beamed reception rooms and the living room, also part of the original medieval building, is very inviting with comfy seating and a gas fire installed in the large hearth. Additionally, you'll find a snug just off the kitchen with some lovely antiques and a wall of books to choose from. Curl up and read, have a snooze or unwind in good company with a cup of tea.

You'll also find a charmingly decorated king size bedroom on this floor with a very comfortable bed and its own ensuite boasting a rain shower, ideal for those with mobility issues. Finally, there's a boot room to leave all your walking bits and bobs after you've explored the area, and a utility room where you can was clothes and get the mud off your boots!

A staircase leads up to an impressive games room where you can chill with a film, play some games on the PS5 or start a ping pong competition.

Upstairs you'll find another king size room, a super-king and a single. All of these rooms have been decorated to the highest standard with excellent mattresses, luxurious bedding and fluffy pillows. The style is cosy with a nod to Victorian in the colours and antique furnishings. The single is big enough to comfortably accommodate an adult, but the décor would make this a delightful room for a child.

There's one Jack and Jill ensuite with rain shower and double basins, which is modern and luxurious, and also a family bathroom which is an absolute delight. Green tiled walls and the raised burgundy roll top bath with spectacular views, make a wonderful touch. A big bubble bath, a glass of champagne and those rolling views are a great way to freshen up before supper and unwind after a day of exploring the area. Indulge in the complimentary luxury toiletries and wrap yourself in a big fluffy towel!

After a relaxing soak, head down and grab a drink at the vintage cabinet before wandering out to the garden to watch the sun set. This gorgeous enclosed, lawned garden has plenty of seating in lovely surroundings. And as an added bonus its perfectly safe for your dog friend to run around in freely.

Ellonby is a pretty hamlet and a bit of a Cumbrian gem situated between the Lake District National Park and the sweeping Pennines. You'll be surrounded by walking routes, and if you fancy a really special meal out, you're only a short walk from Skelton, home to the Michelin pub, Dog and Gun where you'll be greeted warmly and fed very well indeed. The market town of Penrith is six miles away and you're a short 15-minute drive from Ullswater.

Yew Tree is a fabulous property with an interesting history, and just like the photos and descriptions. Check in & out was easy and the house was spotlessly clean. A full information pack was provided and some really useful local hints & tips included. Very close to 'the lake district' , but without the crowds, and lots to see and do nearer the house, but you do need a car. The beds were super comfortable and the garden was a peaceful place to be and dog secure. We would love to return. Thank you for allowing us to visit your wonderful home.
