Overlooking Ullswater and surrounded by stunning landscapes, Hawkhow Estate is a luxurious holiday accommodation nestled away in the heart of the Lake District. Two incredible properties, Hawkhow House and Hawkhow Cottage, sit in the extensive grounds and gardens of the estate that features over four acres of secluded woodland. When not relaxing in the two beautiful homes, guests can stroll around the peaceful gardens and take in the views of the lake, explore one of the many footpaths or spend evenings under the stars around the woodland fire pit. You’ll also have access to a wood fired sauna and can a take plunge in the freshwater pool if you’re feeling brave.
Hawkhow House was built in the 1920’s and provides living and sleeping accommodation for up to 10 guests. The warm and welcoming home boasts grand interiors and is full of original features, such as the imposing oak staircase and carved ‘Hawk of Hawkhow’. The spacious living room has a large open fire to warm up by, as well as a pool table and selection of games to keep guests occupied. A smaller ‘snug’ area provides extra seating space and also has a wood burning stove. The kitchen features a four-oven Aga and all the essentials needed to cater for yourselves. Meals can be enjoyed in the elegant dining room that has picture-postcard views of the lake. ‘Five luxurious bedrooms (two superking, one semi-super king and two twins) fitted with super soft bed linen await when it's time for bed. The house also has two bathrooms (one with a shower and one with a bath) – as well as separate shower room and cloakroom.
The charming cottage sleeps eight guests in four cosy bedrooms (one king, one double, one small double and one twin), and will be prepared ready for arrival with freshly laundered bed linen and soft bath towels. The impressive glass and oak framed extension provides a large living area for guests to socialise and rest after a long day out hiking - with plenty of seating and a log burning stove, as well as a television and a selection of games to play. A traditional, Aga-warmed kitchen has everything you’ll need to cook up a feast, served in the delightful galleried dining area.
Both properties can be rented separately, or larger groups can book them together and have the whole estate to themselves!
Hawkhow Estate is the perfect base from which to explore the local area, which is home to an abundance of local wildlife like red squirrels and deer. Ullswater is on your doorstep and as well as boasting gorgeous views, is perfect for sailing, kayaking and wild swimming, A plethora of footpaths can be accessed directly from the grounds, including a lovely 15-minute walk along the lake to Glenridding, which has several cafes, pubs and shops to visit. A slightly longer walk takes you to Glencoyne Bay and the famous Aira Force waterfall. The historic market town of Penrith is a short drive from the estate, where you can stroll around the cobbled streets and try out the many boutique cafes and restaurants or visit the 14-century castle.
