If you’re looking for a cosy retreat that oozes rustic charm, then you should look no further than the outstanding Rhiwson Uchaf in Ceredigion, Wales. This Grade II listed Welsh longhouse has been lovingly restored, offering six guests a comfortable and calming retreat close to Cardigan Bay.
This amazing home has a lot of its incredible original features including grand oak beams, worn floorboards and original wall paintings that date back to the 1700s. There are also some fabulous large flagstones and pretty tiles that add bucketloads of character to the home.
After you arrive, get comfy in the cosy lounge, with its low ceiling and exposed beams. Here there’s a large corner sofa sitting in front of a giant Smart TV, meaning you can settle in for a movie night with your loved ones or simply unwind with a good book and a nice cuppa. This room also has a great wood-burning fireplace that ensures you can stay toasty and warm all-year-round.
Head into the kitchen and dining space and you’ll be wowed by the old-world charm. Cook on the oil fired Rayburn oven, which sits against an exposed stonework wall, before dinging on the rustic farmhouse dining table. This is the ideal place to gather together and enjoy grand hearty feasts as a group.
When night falls, head to one of the three cosy bedrooms, two of which are up in the rafters. There’s a king size room on the top floor, with a big, super-comfy bed and peaceful, calming decor. And, there’s also a twin room up here, offering nice flexibility for your group. The third bedroom, a fab double, is on the ground floor, making it great for those with accessibility requirements.
When the sun is shining you can step out into your enclosed private garden with a patio area for dining and outdoor sofas for lounging in the fresh country air. You also have a hot tub for indulgent soaks with a glass of bubbles in hand! Hop in and relax as you gaze out over your surroundings. You also have access to a mill pond and 180 acres of private land, which you’re welcome to explore right from your doorstep! And with no main roads in sight, you can truly unwind here, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The Ceredigion countryside offers a wealth of activities for nature lovers, history enthusiasts and adventurers alike. Explore scenic walking trails through rolling hills, ancient woodlands and coastal cliffs, often dotted with charming villages. Cardigan Bay is a highlight, where you can spot dolphins, seals and seabirds along its beautiful shores. Enjoy beach days, water sports or boat trips on the bay, or visit the coastal towns for local shops, historic sites and fresh seafood at welcoming seaside cafés and pubs.

Have you stayed here?
Leave a reviewWell, what can we say that could possibly do this place justice.... We stayed here for 2 weeks. Upon arriving, we were absolutely flabbergasted at just how beautiful the location was. Truly the most incredible surroundings for the most wonderful ultimate zone out from normality. Exceeded any expectations we had from seeing the photographs. So with two energetic children, and 2 crazy dogs, we had so much gorgeous enclosed land for them to exert all their energies. Walks across the farmland, we made the most of too. For myself and my husband, the hot tub, bbq, scenery and regular sightings of birds of prey whilst sunbathing was a real treat. We had a terrific heatwave whilst there, but thankfully the cottage kept us all lovely and cool with its stone built walls. Facilities inside the cottage were excellent! The cottage was clean and tidy. The layout was perfect for our family with so much space, we had room for more guests. Although we didn't particularly require the log burner, it was nice to light it in the evenings just to set the ambience. Communication with the owner was super at all times. We all thoroughly enjoyed what was a much needed break, and we felt well rested (and gutted) when we left. We wouldn't hesitate in booking this place again, I am sure a winter break here would be equally as enjoyable. So much to do within half an hour of the doorstep in different directions. We absolutely loved Llandgrannog ! Definitely our favourite place, the coastal walk just breathtaking, picnics on the cliff top we shall miss. The beach coves here are fabulous ! Pentre Arms, a must go ! The Forest Arms at Brechfa, a definite top notch place for food. We devoured their delicious food after a 12 mile walk/bike ride in the forest. (Again Brechfa Forest, stunning) Aberporth beach for crabbing makes for a delightful day with the children ! Also for cyclists, the millennium trail is a great cycle path for all abilities.

What a lovely, peaceful place. Everything clean and nice quality. Much appreciated that soap, washing up liquid etc was available. Last place we stayed had nothing. Loved the jacuzzi. The owner was extremely friendly and accommodating and we enjoyed the delicious wine and chocolates that were awaiting us. Would heartily recommend the Longhouse ( it's an old building so do remember to duck through the outside door!) Thank you again. We had a great time.
