Nestled within an orchard on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, you’ll find this beautifully restored Devon bank barn which was once used to store apples from the surrounding trees. Master builders sourced local materials to transform the barn into this stylish holiday home, perfect for couples. The original stone barn now sits below the new larch-clad accommodation which features a beautifully designed, light-filled living space and a luxurious king size bedroom. This all makes for a great base for exploring Devon with the National Park, the river Dart and charming market towns such as Ashburton all on your doorstep.
Step inside and you’ll be greeted by the large open plan living, dining and kitchen space. This is bright and airy thanks to the high vaulted ceilings and the skylights letting in plenty of natural light. After a long walk on Dartmoor, you’ll be able to snuggle up on the sofa or on the Mulberry bean bag and enjoy some of the locally sourced treats from your welcome hamper. There’s space for four around the dining table and the bespoke kitchen is fully-equipped with everything you’ll need for anything from quick breakfasts to fancy dinners.
Move through to the king size bedroom with its Simba mattress and crisp white bed linen. There’s a stylish ensuite bathroom with a rainfall shower and Nest controlled heating will make sure you’re cosy whatever the weather. Large floor-to-ceiling windows open out to let in some of that fresh countryside air and allow you to better enjoy the stunning views over the Dart valley.
Outside, there’s half an acre of private orchard where you can while away warm afternoons out in the sunshine. There’s a BBQ and some outdoor furniture so you can make the most of the scenery during the day and a firepit to keep you warm if you want to stay out in the evenings and toast some marshmallows.
If you fancy a bit of wild swimming as a refreshing start to the day, the River Dart is just a five minute walk from the barn down a quiet country lane. If hiking or cycling are more your thing, a five minute drive will get you to the top of the Moor where you can take your pick from dozens of scenic trails. Visit the pretty market town of Ashburton, a short cycle or drive from the barn, and explore the antique shops before stopping for lunch at one of the cafes or restaurants. If you fancy a change of scene, the beaches of south Devon are just 40 minutes away by car.

Leave a reviewThis deserves more than five stars and I could not fault it. Booking and communication were clear, simple and a pleasure. The directions straightforward and arrival easy. Serena and Mark were welcoming and helpful and the barn was immaculately clean and equipped with everything you could need. The decor, furnishings and little extras made this the perfect haven. In the absence of being able to take the barn home we will return..

We had the most amazing long weekend stay here. The decor was great with lots of nice touches and you could tell Serena and Mark had thought of everything to make for a really enjoyable stay. The garden area and view of the surrounding countryside also took things to another level. We’d love to return!

Serena and mark welcomed us to their beautiful converted barn this new years! Although sharing their driveway the barn is cleverly set so that you only see the surrounding countryside! The decor is fab, really modern but with luxurious touches such as bath robes and toiletries and a very thoughtful bottle of fizz to welcome in the new years. It’s a good walk (20 mins) to the local town but it’s worth it for the amazing delis and restaurants (highly recommend Emilia). Overall a fabulous stay which we’d love to return to!
