With a choice between the Empress and the Small Duchess, Graig Wen Quarry Wagons has something for everyone. Enjoy a rustic stay in the heart of Snowdonia, and escape to the great outdoors with the outside seating area complete with a fire pit and quaint fairy lights, perfect for stargazing or toasting marshmallows long into the night. With impressive views of the Mawddach Estuary and mountains, the Graig Wen Quarry Wagons are an unmissable trip immersed in nature that couples and small families will love.
Sleeping four, the Empress is the larger of the two cabins, hosting an ensuite shower and flushing toilet, electric lighting and heating, USB charging points, and a gorgeous fire pit with fairy lights. Perfect for families, the Empress is furnished with a double bed and bunk beds, alongside a kitchenette complete with a gas hob, sink, and cooking utensils, a dining table and a small sofa. The Empress provides ample space during the day, with the double bed pulling down over the dining table at bedtime.
Alternatively, the Small Duchess sleeps three, featuring a double bed and a single bed. The smaller sibling, this cabin features a kitchenette with a two-ring gas hob, a sink, a cool box and cooking utensils, and shared bathroom facilities including hot showers, washbasins and flushing loos, are accessible nearby. Both cabins benefit from a shared fridge freezer close by, and there is also nearby parking.
Nestled just outside Arthog in the county of Gwynedd, North Wales, the area is full of exciting things to see and do. Guests can explore the best of the Welsh coast with a trip to Barmouth, Fairbourne or Llwyngwril Beach or enjoy an array of outdoor activities at Coed y Brenin Forest Park, including orienteering, geocaching and mountain biking. The first purpose-built mountain bike centre in Britain, visitors can bring along their own trusty steed or rent bikes, including e-bikes, tandems and tagalongs, locally. Cyclists will also love the Mawddach Trail, which is right on your doorstep and offers fabulous cycling opportunities.
If guests want to further explore the mining history of the area, they should visit King Arthur’s Labyrinth, which is just 20 minutes away. This popular family attraction takes visitors on an adventure into the heart of an old slate mine.
Children will delight in a trip to the Bwlchgwyn Farm Pony Trekking Centre for an afternoon out riding or equally, a trip to the Fairbourne Steam Railway. Travelling two-and-a-half miles between Fairbourne and Penrhyn Point, the railway connects to a ferry joining Afon Mawddach to Barmouth, and the station similarly hosts a G-Scale Railway for train enthusiasts. There are also some excellent places to eat out within 10 minutes drive, from cosy pubs to award-winning tapas and pizza restaurants, and a cafe serving probably the best cakes in Wales!
