Located in the countryside just outside the market town of Tenbury Wells in Worcestershire, this unique shepherd’s hut provides eco-friendly accommodation for two. The Commander’s Caravan has been carefully converted from an Army Brockhurst trailer and now features everything you could need for a romantic escape to the countryside. Wake up in the morning to the sound of birdsong and enjoy your morning coffee out on the terrace. Spend the day exploring one of the local gardens or National Trust sites before coming back to the hut for a sundowner and a long soak in the hot tub.
The hut sits in a three-acre field under some pretty Cherry Plum trees. The original Brockhurst trailer’s roots date back to the Cold War and the owners lovingly converted it themselves into a shepherd’s hut. They used wood from their farm for the floors and units and many of the furnishings were found in antiques yards or auctions, giving some lovely pieces another life. The lights, fridge and charging points run on solar power and heating and cooking is done with the wood-fired Rayburn, continuing this eco-friendly ethos.
The interior is warm and welcoming with the surprisingly spacious living and kitchen area greeting you as you step inside. The space has been decorated in light colours and the big windows let in plenty of sunshine, opening up the interior further. The bedroom is curtained off at one end of the hut and features a luxurious king-size bed complete with cosy bedding. There’s also a bathroom with a shower and a toilet.
Outside, to the front of the shepherd’s hut, you’ll find a terrace with seating and the wood-fired hot tub. You’ll also find some deck chairs around a firepit with a grill, perfect for barbecues or for toasting a few marshmallows as you do a bit of stargazing in the evenings.
The location is secluded and peaceful but there’s plenty to do in the local area, so you have the choice of relaxing in your hideaway or stepping up the pace with a bit of exploring. There are some beautiful countryside walks, some of which you can start right from your front door. Tenbury Wells is also just a couple of miles away and has plenty of independent shops and restaurants, including Unwined Bar and Restaurant which serves up delicious tapas or the Kingshead for Thai food. The town of Ludlow also makes a great day out with its castle and bustling market. The Malvern Hills and the Shropshire Hills AONB also offer some scenic walking opportunities.

Have you stayed here?
Leave a reviewWhat a great experience! My girlfriend and I both agree that there would be nothing that we would change about this place. The cosy atmosphere, peaceful settings and close proximity to the quaint town of Tenbury Wells make it the perfect country getaway. We would recommend getting the Saturday night pizza kit as well, it was good fun and very tasty! Our host Mhairi was friendly, organised and communicative. We hope to stay again very soon!

My boyfriend and I stayed here as a surprise for his birthday last year. The stay was absolutely incredible! From the caravan itself to the kindness and helpfulness of the hosts. The hosts were kind enough to help me with the surprise and put some balloons and a birthday gift in the caravan, which my boyfriend really appreciated. They were on hand for any questions we had and to show us the ropes. It was nice to step away from reality almost with creating a fire to heat the hot tub and a space with lots of privacy. Tenbury Wells is a cute village not too far away with lots of shops and things to explore. I would definitely recommend a stay here and will be returning in the future! Thank you for an amazing stay !
