A small but perfectly conceived hotel that won’t be a well-kept secret for long.

The Artist Residence started life in Brighton, a place so laidback and forward-minded you always leave wanting to freelance at a zero-waste eco hat making collective (an idea mostly discarded by the time you hit the M25). And while this third hotel in the chain has transported some of that bohemian vibe to a surprisingly quiet patch of south London, it has done so whilst absorbing the kind of luxury touches that an international design conscious clientele demand.
Made up of just 10 bedrooms, the Artist Residence is a small friendly hotel with a big heart. Rooms are individually furnished with hand picked art and vintage finds, adding character and that homely touch where so many hotels falter. The finish is sleek and neat but is softened by the natural textures of wooden floors and in some rooms some gorgeous exposed brick walls or distressed wood panelling. Heavenly walk-in monsoon showers and Egyptian cotton sheets on king size (minimum) beds finish things off nicely. Smeg mini-fridges are an added bonus
The building began life as a pub many decades ago and has now been put back into service with the introduction of Cambridge Street Café on the ground floor of the hotel; A neighbourhood café by day and modern bistro by night. Open 7 days a week, the focus here is on fresh, wholesome and satisfying fare which is what you will need if you’re off to explore all of London’s sights.
Situated in Pimlico, a quiet and mostly residential part of town, you’re just a stroll from the river and close to upmarket Belgravia and Chelsea. A 5-minute walk will get you to Victoria station – a travel hub that connects you to the tube, Gatwick Airport and the coast, as well as with coaches heading all over the country.
