Set in lush, green countryside just north of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, The Old Shearing Shed is a peaceful and romantic retreat. Beautifully renovated, the building has been furnished in a contemporary style that celebrates its farming heritage. Modern luxuries, such as an aromatherapy spa bath sit alongside vintage and rustic furnishings and the original features of the barn. The result is a relaxing and stylish hideaway in harmony with its stunning natural surroundings.
Downstairs, there’s a spacious, open-plan living space complete with a fully-equipped kitchen. It has the feel of a farm-house kitchen with flagged stone floors, copper pans hanging from the walls, a butler sink and beautiful wood detailing. Move through to the dining area in the centre of the space where you can tuck into breakfast before a day walking in the Brecon Beacons. In the evenings, rest your legs on the sofa in front of a crackling fire and get stuck into a good film or a board game.
You’ll find the bedroom on the mezzanine level, where you’ll find a huge bed under the eaves of the barn with spectacular views through the skylights. You can sit in bed with your morning coffee as you watch the sheep grazing in the fields below and birds of prey gliding above. There’s also a gorgeous handmade copper and nickel roll top bath on the mezzanine level, perfect for a relaxing soak in the evening.
Outside, is your own terraced garden with sweeping views out over the surrounding countryside. There’s a patio area with a barbecue kitchen so you can continue to enjoy the views as you get started with dinner. You’ll also find a private heated garden spa room, complete with an aromatherapy spa bath and a comfy lounger below a large skylight. In the summer, open the large bi-fold doors so you can enjoy a bit of fresh mountain air while you relax. During the colder months, get the fire going and stay warm and cosy whatever the weather outside.
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor activities in the local area. Guests at The Old Shearing Shed have access to 25 acres of the surrounding farmland, including a communal tennis court. Stroll through the woodland and along the river to the local pub, or head a little further south to the Brecon Beacons National Park. Here you’ll find plenty of trails for walkers, runners, cyclists and horse riders, so you can explore at whatever pace suits you. There are lots of organised activities on offer too, from paragliding to rafting.
Please note that the minimum stay for this property is 3 nights
The Old Shearing Shed is owned and managed by Helen Howarth.
You can ask a question or make a booking request directly with Helen Howarth.
The minimum rental period over a weekend is three nights arriving on a Friday, or four nights mid-week arriving on a Monday, but you can decide to arrive or depart within this timeframe to suit you.
Both short breaks are priced the same, so if you stay mid-week you effectively get one night FREE!
A full seven-night retreat works out much better value, being just an extra 30% more than a short break.
To reserve your dates we would just require a 25% deposit and the remaining balance would be due eight weeks prior to arrival.

Leave a reviewJust returned from a fabulous 3 night stay at the stunning and luxurious Old Shearing Shed to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. The cottage is spacious and private and has been thoughtfully designed, decorated and prepared to a high end standard complete with your own gorgeous spa room and garden, Sonos speakers, barbecue and smart TV. A welcome hamper with locally sourced goodies and a comprehensive information pack was there on our arrival and our lovely hosts even left an anniversary card and bottle of Prosecco to greet us! The grounds are beautiful with breathtaking views and is also home to 3 Alpacas and there is even a tennis court on the premises! This is most definitely a place for romantics, adventurers and nature lovers alike and the perfect holiday for four legged friends. There is plenty to do in the local area from walking / hiking trails, cycling, horse riding, fishing, boating, rock climbing, abseiling, caving and nature reserves and of course stargazing within the welsh dark sky reserve. We had the best time and simply cannot recommend highly enough - we will most definitely book again in the future!!
