The Maltings is a beautiful barn conversion in the Howe of Fife, close to St. Andrews. This traditional stone building dates back to the 1720s and still contains some of its original features. The large open-plan living areas and high, vaulted ceilings create a sense of space that makes this a great choice for large family groups looking for a relaxing rural escape.
On the ground floor, you’ll find big open-plan spaces which make up the kitchen and dining area that leads through to the double height lounge. The large kitchen is well equipped and has a breakfast bar and a dining table. The lounge is a great space for everyone to get together and play board games or watch a film with big comfy sofas and rooflights letting in plenty of natural light during the day. There is a second sitting room upstairs with impressive vaulted ceilings and a solid fuel stove. This makes a cosy escape if you’re in need of a quiet spot to get stuck into a book.
There are five bedrooms in total, three on the ground floor and two upstairs. You’ll find the master bedroom on the first floor, just off the sitting room, which has a dressing room and an ensuite bathroom. You’ll find a double bedroom and a twin bedroom with a ‘jack and jill’ shower room on the ground floor, which makes a nice family suite for those with young children. There are a further two double bedrooms, both with ensuite facilities and there is also a sofa bed located in an alcove in the first floor sitting room.
There are double doors leading out from the kitchen onto a private garden area. This is enclosed, making it great for those with children and features timber decking, outdoor furniture, a lawn and a barbecue.
The Maltings is located on the edge of the village of Pitlessie in the Howe of Fife, a beautiful valley with woodland and farmland making it perfect for those who want to explore the outdoors. There are lots of walking and cycling routes accessible right from the house. The Scottish Deer Centre is just three miles away where you can learn more about Scotland’s native wildlife and the Fife coast with its stunning beaches is just 12 miles away. There is a friendly local pub in the village which serves up great food and atmosphere and the cities of Edinburgh, Perth and Dundee are all within a 45-minute drive.
