  The Detail...

In the scenic Scottish countryside, just outside the historic town of Galashiels, you will find Abbotsford. This 19th Century manor is nestled in the picturesque Tweed Valley, and was home to Sir Walter Scott, the renowned Scottish novelist. Here, you're invited to stay in the Hope Scott Wing (named for Scott's daughter). The Hope Scott wing is a large section of this beautiful country estate that sleeps groups of up to 16, making it perfect for family groups or special occasions such as weddings, birthdays or anniversaries. Your stay promises to be one of opulent decor and picture book views of the stunning Scottish countryside. Come experience its lavish surroundings and follow in the footsteps of esteemed guests such as Charles Dickens, President Ulysses S. Grant, and even Queen Victoria. It really is a stay like no other.

The Hope Scott Wing can host up to 16 people, spread across eight individually styled luxury bedrooms. This includes six en-suite bathrooms, with one shared Jack and Jill style. The wing also includes a lavishly decorated sitting room, a quiet reading room, a billiards room, a games corner, a large and spacious bespoke kitchen, and a formal dining room featuring wonderful views over the River Tweed. Externally, guests can enjoy the privacy of their very own courtyard and patio garden. The estate also includes various romantic riverside and woodland walks.

Abbotsford itself offers a variety of activities for its guests to partake in, and the house is open to members of the public. Many of the original features and the Scott family's possessions remain there to this day. Guided tours of the house and gardens are available too. Other features include an exhibition on the life of Sir Walter Scott, a gift shop, Ochiltree's caf, a visitor's centre, walking routes around the 120-acre estate, and a family play trail.

For those wishing to explore the surrounding area, there are a multitude of locations and attractions in the Scottish Borders; Melrose, a charming little historic town; nearby Galashiels, a commercial centre for the Scottish borders region; or one can visit some of the many other "Big Houses" in the region. For those wishing to venture a bit further afield, Edinburgh is about an hour by car or train to the north. The world famous Hadrian's Wall is a 90 minute drive to the south.
