The Details...

Experience the untouched beauty of the enchanting Isle of Skye, at this remote, couple’s cottage amongst the serene and peaceful Camustianavaig hillsides. Nestled above a shimmering bay along a one-track country lane, The Crofter’s House is beautifully placed for calm and tranquil days. Wander out across your rugged croft, towards the wild, open pastures, heading down towards the pebbled shores of the island’s peaceful, coastal waters. Look out for rare, prancing deer in the ancient, tangled woodland or for the basking seals and playful otters glistening on the coastland.

The charming, whitewashed cottage dates back to the early 19th century and is part of an original, farmers croft set on a craggy, mountain hillside. Now carefully restored and stylishly updated, it fuses its classic features with a contemporary, Scandi-finish. Expect thick uneven walls and fading floorboards beside chic, minimalist panelling and sophisticated furniture. There’s a smoking wood/peat burner to keep things toasty and warm, along with an outdoor shed with a handy, wood store.

A snug sitting room is the heart of the home, complete with a sink-in sofa and designer throw. A bijoux dining table looks out through the deep box window, while local art and select books line shelves in the corner. The handcrafted country kitchen is just down the passage and has a traditional butler’s sink and modern appliances. Cook romantic breakfasts and light picnic lunches, curling up with a hearty, evening meal after a day in Nature’s clutches. There’s a flat-screen TV for cosy night’s in, along with a BOSE Bluetooth speaker and DVD player.

The relaxed couple’s bedroom is made for casual morning lie-ins and has a laidback ambience with a subtle touch of luxury. Sink into the king-size bed topped with its simply styled linen, waking to a steaming, hot shower and a freshly-brewed coffee. Plan out your days ahead on the neatly, folded maps, packing your hot toddies and vintage compass.

Beyond the comfort of your cottage lies the romance of the land, with its cascading mountains, mysterious forests and secluded sands. The Ben Tianavaig mountain rises up behind the croft, while Camustianavaig Bay is just a two-minute walk. Cycle through the woodlands, over mossy tufts and berry brambles, stopping off to spy the wildlife and lay out your picnic hamper. Head out around the island to see its famous, natural scenes, including the magical Fairy Pools and sublime Coral Beach. Bustling Portree is also just a five-minute drive and is known for its independent shops and pretty, harbour sights.
