The Details

The Smithy is a one-of-a-kind luxury retreat nestled between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, offering groups of up to eight people a fabulous place to relax together in style. Once a working blacksmith’s workshop, it has been lovingly transformed into a stylish and tranquil sanctuary for families, friends or anyone seeking to recharge in nature. The character of its past is still felt in the architecture, while the interiors have been designed with contemporary comforts in mind, creating a space that feels both timeless and inviting. Sitting on the edge of a lovely river, you can enjoy fab views of your surroundings or unwind by the water's edge in peace.

Stepping inside, the accommodation is as thoughtful as it is luxurious. Upstairs, you’ll find two spacious king size bedrooms, each with its own spa-like bathing facilities – one featuring a deluxe freestanding bath next to a window for indulgent soaks with a view, the other with a lavish spa shower right in the room. Downstairs offers a third king bedroom alongside a twin, both sharing a distinctive cave-like bathroom room with a dramatic waterfall shower. Every space has been carefully curated for comfort, from the sumptuous beds to the cosy corners perfect for curling up with a book.

You’ll also love the communal living areas, which have been wonderfully designed to bring people together. The well-equipped kitchen, complete with a large range cooker, flows into a dining space where a generous wooden table seats the whole group for leisurely meals. Entertainment is never in short supply, with a state-of-the-art cinema room for movie nights, a foosball table and a treasure trove of board games. For moments of relaxation, head to the wellness room with its massage chair, yoga mats and soothing atmosphere. And, if you want to enjoy some true opulence, be sure to step outside and enjoy a relaxing soak in the large wood-fired hot tub. This is the perfect place to sink in and enjoy a glass of bubbles under the stars.

The outdoor spaces are every bit as special as the interiors. A beautifully landscaped garden is home to an electric Ninja grill, a pizza oven and a large table for alfresco cooking and dining. After dinner, gather around the fire pit to toast marshmallows and share stories late into the evening. With the gentle sounds of the river and the backdrop of lush countryside, it’s a setting that feels worlds away from the everyday. The property is also dog-friendly, with a warm welcome extended to four-legged guests, who even receive their own hamper.

The Smithy’s location makes it a dream base for exploring with two of the country’s most incredible destinations a short drive away. You’re just 20 minutes from the Lake District, with Windermere within half an hour, while the Yorkshire Dales are only 15 minutes away. For those who want to venture further, the Scottish Borders are just over an hour’s drive. From hiking, cycling and watersports to simply soaking up the breathtaking scenery, the area offers endless ways to connect with nature.
