Port Isaac, Cornwall
A quirky three-storey cottage in one of Cornwall’s most iconic villages, Port Isaac.
The Birdcage is listed in affiliation with National Trust Holidays.
Rising out of the higgledy-piggledy lanes of Port Issac is this Grade II-listed, former cobbler's shop. Pentagonal shaped and three stories high, it peeks over its neighbours to provide views of the harbour. Its interiors are just as intriguing too, with its snug rooms, exposed beams and a narrow staircase that slims down to just over a foot wide in places.
The decor is simple but effective, with calming tones, and pretty furnishings. You can sit on the comfy sofa in the lounge opposite the fireplace, for a cosy night in with your loved one. Guests are also able to enjoy a relaxing night sleep in the comfy bedroom, which is located at the top of the three storeys. The bathroom also comes with a luxurious free-standing bath tub, meaning you can lie down for a relaxing soak after a day wandering this beautiful part of Cornwall.
You’ll be able to kick back on its terrace and listen to the chime of fishing boats on the harbour and the hum of tourists as they start arriving for day ahead. Winding lanes will lead you down to upmarket fish restaurants and a small shingly beach with aqua-coloured waters.
Away from the bustle of village, the South West Coast Path can be hopped onto from here, where you’ll be on the pathway to the rest of North Cornwall. Head west to Port Quin, Lundy Bay and surfing beach Polzeath.
