Picturesque 18th century cottage with luxurious interior, tunnel fire, cosy den, private terrace and spa hot tub near Ashbourne in Derbyshire.
Heather Cottage is a traditional stone home that's been sympathetically restored and given a chic and stylish twist. It would be ideal for couples seeking a country hideaway in the pretty village of Kirk Ireton and the surrounding Derbyshire countryside.
Upon arrival you'll be greeted by a lovely stone country cottage with views of the quiet road and rolling hills beyond. Drop your bags and head into the heart of the house. In the gorgeous living room, stone floors and wooden beams give you a sense of its history whilst the soft rugs, throws, cosy deep sofa and tunnel fire create a warm inviting space for snuggling down with a glass of wine. The living room runs into the snug, which also benefits from the tunnel fire and is a perfect spot for cosying in with a good book or an afternoon nap.
A galley style kitchen comes fully equipped with everything you'll need for a romantic meal for two which can be enjoyed at the dining table in the nook. Or if you're having breakfast, the kitchen has a perfect little table with a TV above so you can catch up with the news over your morning coffee.
When it's time for bed head upstairs to the magnificent master bedroom, the centrepiece of which is undoubtedly the six foot wide four poster bed. This bed was created with original reclaimed timbers and handcrafted in nearby Matlock. The room has a solid oak floor and original paintings on the wall but it is the luxurious fabrics and the soft lighting that make this a truly inviting place to drift off. Adjoining the bedroom is a beautiful en-suite with a deep double bath, heated floor and huge bespoke shower cube.
In the morning grab a coffee and head out onto the private terrace which is home to some gorgeous driftwood tables and seats. Take in the morning sun whilst making plans for the day. And in the evening you can open a bottle of something fabulous and sink into the Canadian spa hot tub! If you want to dry off and get changed there's a warm and cosy Scandinavian style cabin where you can sit back and relax whilst someone else lights up the hand crafted BBQ.
When it's time to explore you'll find plenty of lovely walks in and around the village and if you fancy a pub meal the famous 17th century pub 'The Barley Mow' is just twenty yards down the hill.
There are a few other lovely pubs for dining and quaffing but most would require a short drive or a taxi so be sure to book one in advance, and the same applies to reservations at the pubs which are always busy and popular. Some recommendations from the hosts include: The Black Swan, a five minute drive away, and The Miner's Arms, a 10 minute drive away which serves local ales and a good menu. For something a little fancier you might like to try La Mistral, a 10 minute drive away, this rustic French bistro has regularly changing Blackboard specials and a great wine list.
You'll find some excellent walks in the area too. For those who like a challenge, Kinder Scout is the highest mountain in the Peak District, at just over 600 metres. You’ll find a huge choice of walking routes in and around the hill, and ‘must see’ places such as Mam Tor or Winnats Pass. And when you've tired yourself out you can head home to your cottage and sink into the hot tub.
