Set in the rolling fields of Somerset between the Jurassic Coast and the Quantock Hills, Dotty’s Hut offers a real taste of country life. This beautiful oak-clad shepherd’s hut was built locally by master craftsmen. You’ll notice the pride these craftsmen take in their work by the attention to every little detail, from the curved skylight above the bed for stargazing to the heated towel rail in the bathroom so you’ll have warm fluffy towels waiting after a hot shower. After a long walk along the coast or in the Quantock Hills, enjoy a soak in the Hikki Bohemen wood-fired hot tub while enjoying the view.
Step into the hut and you’ll find a cosy interior crafted using high-quality materials, such as the lovely oak worktop and the beautifully painted cabinets. The main space is open plan and can be warmed up quickly on chilly evenings with the wood-burning stove in the corner. There’s a well-equipped kitchen with room for a fridge-freezer, a gorgeous Belfast sink, an induction hob and all the basics to get you started.
The interior’s design really does make the most of the space with the seating area wrapped around the dining table converting into a coffee table or making way for the luxurious pull-down bed in the evening. At the end of the hut, you’ll find the bathroom complete with an electric shower, a flushing toilet and a stylish marble sink.
Outside, you’ll have your own private garden centred around a Kadai fire pit which can be used for cooking anything from a few toasted marshmallows to more ambitious barbecues. You’ll find a good supply of logs waiting for you. There’s also a Hikki Bohemen wood-fired hot tub where you can sit back and relax late into the evening with a drink, watching the stars appear overhead.
The hut is in a peaceful rural setting with sweeping views across the countryside and out to the coast and just a flock of Herdwick sheep for neighbours. It’s a great starting point for lots of walks, some of which will take you via some of the local pubs and there’s even a beautiful alfresco tea room set in the ruins of a 14th-century chantry nearby. Kilve Beach is a short distance from the hut with excellent rock pools and fossils to discover. The Quantock Hills, England’s first designated ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, are just 10 minutes away and perfect for walking, cycling and even horse riding.
