In Somerset’s wonderful Blackdown Hills, not far from Chard, the Dimpsey Yonder Shepherd’s Hut takes this well-loved form of accommodation to a higher level, combining two huts to create one stunning retreat. The luxury of the interior contrasts with the wildness of the outdoors, which you can admire from your own hot tub right outside.
Set in its own copse, the wooded surroundings and wildlife provide a natural setting for Yonder. This hut is super-indulgent, but why not spoil yourself? Inside, you have a cosy kitchen and dining area warmed by a wood-burning stove – and, to make it even better, there will be a tea tray of baked treats waiting for you on arrival. There is full central heating too – very luxurious for a shepherd’s hut.
Your kitchen essentials are provided, including crockery and cutlery, plus tea, coffee, oil, vinegar and the like. There’s an electric hob, fridge and Belfast sink, and a cute oak table and bistro chairs – a nice spot to enjoy a meal together. Your toilet and copper-lined shower can also be found in hut number one.
Walk through to the adjoining second hut, and you have the most decadent bedroom, complete with skylight, luxury Naturalmat bed, mood lighting and sheepskin rugs. And it gets even better, with a magnificent free-standing slipper bath opposite the bed – this might just be the most romantic shepherd’s hut around.
Doors lead straight out to your private deck, where you have a seating area and that wood-fired hot tub waiting for you (and only for you). This is the place to end the day, looking out on the gardens and up at the night sky.
There are great places to eat all over the region, with the closest – the lovely Candlelight Inn in Bishopswood – just a four-minute drive away. Head into nearby Chard and you have many more choices, and larger towns like Taunton and Axminster have lots to offer too; both are around 20 minutes’ drive from Yonder.
Elsewhere, you have impressive stately homes to visit, a nearby golf course at Cricket St Thomas, and it won’t take too long to make your way to the Jurassic Coast. It’s a little over 30 minutes’ drive to Lyme Regis – there’s no better place to start your exploration of Devon and Dorset’s coastal heritage.

Leave a reviewWe had the most perfect weekend at Dimpsey Yonder! The hut is in such a peaceful and beautiful location. The hut is so cosy inside and beautifully decorated. We didn’t want to leave! We loved cooking outside in the pizza oven and bbq and the wood fired hot tub was so relaxing. Emma and Andrew are there to help whenever you need and we will definitely be going back!
