This beautiful stone and cob building, located on a farm close to Exmoor National Park, was once a cow shed. It has recently been renovated and is now a spacious holiday home with plenty of luxury features, from a hot tub in the private courtyard to an outdoor kitchen, great for dining outdoors on sunny days. Surrounded by 20 acres of farmland and with stunning views, Tumbledown Barn is perfect for an escape to the countryside with family or friends to relax and slow down the pace amidst some beautiful surroundings.
Set on Luckett Farm in Knowstone, a charming village on the edge of Exmoor, the barn has been carefully restored to retain its original character while adding plenty of modern comforts. Alongside the beautiful exposed wooden beams and vaulted ceilings, you’ll find a freestanding bath in one of the bedrooms and a contemporary, double-height kitchen. The living space is open plan, so you can all be together whether you’re putting your feet up in front of the log burner, rustling up dinner in the kitchen or planning the next day’s activities at the table. You can also open up a set of French doors out onto the south-facing patio and extend your living space outside.
You’ll also find the first of the bedrooms downstairs which can be set up as a twin or a double with an ensuite wetroom, offering plenty of flexibility for families. Head upstairs to find the main bedroom with its stunning views, ensuite and walk-in wardrobe, as well as a third bedroom. This double room has an ensuite shower and a luxurious freestanding bath in the bedroom itself, the perfect spot to relax after a long walk in the national park or a day at the beach.
Outside, the barn has its own private courtyard where you can spend relaxed evenings cooking in the outdoor kitchen or enjoying a drink of something as you sit back in the hot tub. If you’re bringing the dog, there’s also a handy dog bath outside so there’s no need to worry about muddy or sandy paws.
You’ll find yourselves spoilt for choice when it comes to things to see and do with the dramatic coastline of North Devon to the west and the rugged landscapes of Exmoor National Park a short way to the north. Knowstone is on the Two Moors Way, a popular coast to coast path that takes you through both Exmoor and Dartmoor, so you can head out along part of this trail right from the front door. If you fancy a day at the beach, head up to Woolacombe, Croyde Bay or Saunton Sands. These sandy beaches are all great for a family trip to the seaside with golden sands and they often have good waves for surfing. After a busy day exploring, reward yourselves with dinner at the village pub, The Masons Arms, which has a Michelin Star.
