The Details

Once a Victorian chapel and schoolhouse, Splatt Chapel has been lovingly reimagined as a luxurious countryside retreat surrounded by three-and-a-half acres of stunning Devon landscapes. This unique conversion combines soaring vaulted ceilings, original architectural details and contemporary style to create a space that feels both inspiring and deeply tranquil. Perfect for those seeking a restorative escape, guests can wander through open fields, spot deer at dusk and unwind in complete privacy with only the sounds of nature for company.

Step through the grand entrance into the former schoolroom - now a stunning open plan kitchen and dining area, bathed in light from large patio doors that open out onto the garden. With underfloor heating throughout, the space is warm and welcoming in every season. The beautifully designed kitchen features sleek modern appliances, including an American-style fridge freezer with ice dispenser, and a large island with an induction hob, ideal for social cooking or morning coffee chats. Outside, the patio provides the perfect setting for alfresco dining beneath Devon skies.

The two elegant bedrooms, one double and one twin, are both located on the ground floor and come with their own stylish bathrooms, each with rainfall showers and brass fittings. The twin room’s bathroom also features a luxurious double-ended bath, perfect for long evening soaks after countryside walks. Upstairs, the spacious lounge has a dramatic vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, comfortable seating, a wood burner and picture windows overlooking the fields. A discreet tea and coffee station adds a touch of thoughtfulness for relaxed evenings spent in front of the fire or movie nights on the 50-inch TV with Netflix.

Surrounded by nature yet within easy reach of local attractions, Splatt Chapel offers a wonderful balance of seclusion and adventure. Dartmoor National Park and the historic market town of Okehampton are both within a 30-minute drive, while Exeter’s vibrant culture and dining scene are just 45 minutes away. Follow the nearby Tarka Trail, explore the charming village of Iddesleigh, home to Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse inspiration or simply enjoy the serenity of the Devon countryside from your private retreat.
