On a small knoll with breathtaking views of the world famous Scottish Highlands sits The Old Byre, a gorgeous stone converted croft byre located just minutes from the town of Fort William. Long celebrated for their dramatic, plunging scenery, rising wooded hills and silvery lochs, the Highlands of Scotland are the dream getaway for couples in search of outdoors adventure in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Britain.
Enter the Old Byre into an open plan kitchen/dining room with its well appointed kitchen and stunning exposed overhead beams, finished in local cedar panelling. Curl up in front of the open fire with a book or glass of wine and relax.
With gorgeous timber finishes and an abundance of soft furnishings, every aesthetic and all the practical details has been thought of in this lovingly renovated stone house. Although it is set in the wild, untamed beauty of Northern Scotland, you won’t have to compromise on luxury at The Old Byre, which comes equipped with all of the amenities you need to relax after a long day’s walking. The washer-dryer will ensure that you’re ready to go in the morning, while a dishwasher and high-end modern fitted kitchen mean that you can spend less time on chores, and more time relaxing and enjoying your time away. Luxury bedlinen, fluffy white towels, and cosy dressing gowns come as standard in this snug getaway in the hills. Underfloor heating guarantees decadence in this remarkably authentic former byre.
The interior aesthetic is alpine, with a hygge feel from the hardwood floors, cosy rugs, and local craftsmanship. A stone built structure from over a hundred years ago has been restored with an emphasis on warm, soft woods, and gentle lines which recall the undulating valleys of this pastoral landscape.
The Old Byre sits on a single-track road from Fort William to Blarmachfoldach. The amenities and services of Fort William town centre can be reached in ten minutes by car. With superb vistas all year round, you’re right by Ben Nevis, Britain’s tallest mountain. Visitors flock to these parts from all over the world, keen to walk, fish, birdwatch, and sail in the clean air and water of this area of natural beauty which so many filmmakers and directors have attempted to capture. While The Old Byre is a dreamy retreat for couples and individuals looking to get away from it all, there’s no need to be a hermit, with great restaurants like The Smiddy, Seafood Café, and The Crannog a short distance away.

Have you stayed here?
Leave a reviewWe had a lovely week here. The cottage was immaculate on arrival, beautifully designed and so cosy. We were so lucky with the weather, sunny and warm all week, so my only regret is we didn't need to light the fire! We would definitely stay here again if we holiday in this area, and would recommend to anyone. I can't rate it highly enough
