  The Detail...

Nestled between the two beautiful settings of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside is The Malabar. This lovingly restored 18th Century barn is the perfect rural escape for a large group of family or friends.

Sleeping up to 12 guests across six en-suite bedrooms there are original touches throughout, from exposed stone walls to oak beams overhead. All of these light and airy rooms have stunning views across the rolling hills beyond, with each having its own personal name and distinct style. Sliding barn doors separate the luxurious and comfy beds with pure wool bedding, to the large en-suite bathrooms which each have a freestanding bath and walk-in shower. That added bit of quality is added by a TV, fluffy dressing gowns, Bath House toiletries, and WiFi throughout.

Those staying have exclusive use of The Malabar, with the hosts living in the nearby farmhouse. However, the rooms are also available as B&B, with freshly brewed tea brought to the door and a breakfast of local specialities, such as wild boar and venison sausages, eggs from the farm, and homemade bread. The same service, self-catering, or a fully catered option is also available with exclusive use.

The large dining room with wood burning stove is part of the social hub of the house and really has a grand feel about it. There is also an honesty bar stocked with wine, local ale, gin, and whisky. The lounge has soft furnishings with an Indian twist to the decor - as well as a roaring fire and board games for those rainy afternoons in. When the sun is out those staying can relax on the terrace or in the garden.

Location is key and The Malabar is ideally placed for getting out and about and exploring the spectacular surroundings. There are walking and cycling trails that take in the breathtaking views, with plenty of local produce to try and crafts to discover along the way. Then after a day in the countryside guests can kick off their shoes in the boot room and kick back for the evening.
