Built in 1720 by Sir Henry Liddell of Ravensworth, Eslington Hall sits in a delightfully peaceful spot surrounded by expansive lawns and gentle wooded parkland. Now the home of the 9th Baron Lord Ravensworth, the Hall stands on the north bank of the River Aln at the southern base of the ‘Ryle Hills’ and two miles west of the village of Whittingham. The East Wing offers a substantial and very elegant holiday accommodation that would be perfect for a large family get together or a group of friends wishing to recreate the life of 18th century landed gentry! Bring something fabulous to wear whilst idling by the fireplace or drinking wine around the fabulous antique dining table.
Beautifully decorated in-keeping with its historic charm The East Wing is a real treat. These kinds of houses are normally open for day visitors to mooch around so it's quite rare to see one available to rent as a holiday let.
Once you've finished admiring it from the outside, it truly is an impressive piece of architecture, you'll enter to find very comfortable and spacious living quarters. The living room is large and elegant, but cosy with an open fire place to sit around whilst enjoying a good book from the shelf or a card game. There's a big TV in the corner so it's also ideal for a movie night. You'll also find double doors leading outside if you fancy a turn around the grounds post-supper.
The kitchen is modern with granite worktops that offset the beautiful flagged stone floor. A wonderful oil Aga is at your disposal for cooking up some delicious feasts and the hosts have also provided an electric cooker and dishwasher making it all a bit more 21st century. There's an island with a breakfast bar attached where you can enjoy a morning coffee and a slice of toast with lashings of marmalade.
When it's time for dinner you'll want to make an effort and do justice to the stunning dining room with its long table and high backed intricate wood seating. Boasting high ceilings, solid wood floors and magnificent views of the grounds, it's the perfect room for a celebratory meal by candlelight where you can pretend to be living in a different time altogether.
There are five bedrooms, all impressive and all classically decorated with some lovely antique pieces. One of the rooms has a six foot bed and an ensuite with a large shower cubicle and travertine marble floor. Two rooms have five foot double beds, both also with ensuites and showers, and lastly two twin rooms with generous beds, also with ensuites. That means that all of the rooms have ensuites meaning there will be no sharing and no queuing! It's all very fancy.
Outside is as impressive as the inside with large manicured lawns, an old stone terrace, a gorgeous lily pond and a patio with outdoor furniture from which you can enjoy the view with a glass of something delicious. The estate is located between the Cheviot Hills on the border of Northumberland National Park and the Northumberland coastline and there are plenty of nearby beaches to explore including Alnmouth which has lovely scenic walks and a nearby car park. For meals out you might like to try The Bluebell Inn in Alnwick or maybe grab a coffee and have a look around the gallery in the Rocking Horse Cafe.
