Beautifully converted stone farm building located above Ullswater in the north of the Lake District with room for all the family.
Please note: minimum stay for this property is: 3 nights low season & 7 nights high season
The Barn at Thornythwaite Farm is one of three pretty holiday cottages in a beautifully converted stone barn building. Located on a working farm in the Matterdale valley above Ullswater lake in the Lake District, this lovely building has been converted with the environment in mind, preserving as much of the original features as possible and installing renewable energy sources and plenty of insulation.
Inside, The Barn immediately feels spacious thanks to the large kitchen and dining area that has a double height ceiling which shows off the building’s original beams. The large arched glass doorway lets in plenty of natural light and there are a couple of comfy armchairs positioned in front of it, the perfect spot to curl up with a book.
There are two spacious bedrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs, with plenty of room for all the family. The double bedroom is upstairs and has an ensuite bathroom and a cosy feel thanks to the sloping ceiling of the barn. The twin room downstairs can also be made up as another double if preferred and there’s lots of space for a pull out bed as well. There is a second bathroom downstairs which is a shower wetroom.
The sitting room has large windows, so you can make the most of the spectacular views of the surrounding fells, especially in the mornings when the room becomes a real suntrap. There are big comfy sofas where you can relax after a busy day exploring the Lake District. The sitting room also leads out onto a private patio with some outdoor furniture. This is a great spot to sit and watch the sunset over the fells as you relax with a glass of something.
The Barn is located in a quiet valley in the north of the Lake District but still only 15 minutes from the M6, making it easily accessible. The Ullswater area is a great choice for those who want to get out and about while avoiding the crowds around Windermere and Ambleside. Head down to the lake for a whole range of activities, from canoeing and kayaking to open water swimming. For a more relaxing way of enjoying the water, hop on one of the regular steamer ferries at various points around the lake. Of course, there are plenty of walks for all abilities, from a stroll to the beautiful Aira Force waterfall to a challenging ascent of Helvellyn or Blencathra.
