Tucked away in the beautiful landscape of the Sussex Weald, surrounded by rolling hills and majestic conifer trees, this shepherd’s hut is a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. It’s located on the grounds of a 19th century pinetum which creates a fairytale feel with just deer, badgers and owls for company. Enjoy the peaceful scenery and the outdoor lifestyle, cooking on the BBQ and discovering footpaths through the surrounding woodland. This romantic rural escape is perfect for couples looking to unplug for a while and reconnect with nature.
Inside the carefully designed, bespoke shepherd’s hut, you’ll find plenty of luxuries to keep you cosy and comfortable during your stay. There’s a king-size bed tucked away to one side, sectioned off slightly by bookshelves, creating a cosy nook. In the centre, there’s a comfy living space with two armchairs positioned in front of a wood burning stove, the perfect spot to snuggle up on chillier evenings with a glass of wine and a good book. There’s also a well-equipped kitchenette with all the basics to get you started. Just past the kitchen, you’ll find the modern shower room with stylish black and brass fittings.
On sunny days, spend most of your time outdoors, sitting back and relaxing on the comfy seating, keeping an eye out for any wildlife that might wander by. You’re likely to spot plenty of birds including owls, badgers, bats, deer and maybe even a glow-worm or two. Other than these visitors, the shepherd’s hit has complete privacy in the tree-lined asparagus garden.
Enjoy a coffee outdoors and perhaps rustle up a cooked breakfast on the BBQ. Soak up the peace and quiet around the shepherd’s hut or go exploring by following one of the footpaths through the trees. The local village is just a 10-minute walk away where you’ll find a shop and a post office and there are four pubs in the area, serving up delicious food and craft beers. In the evenings, get the fire pit going back at The Asparagus Garden and enjoy a romantic dinner followed by a bit of star gazing.
If you fancy venturing a little further from your peaceful paradise, there’s plenty to do in the local area. Explore pretty market towns, such as Heathfield and Lewes or pack your walking boots and explore the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park and Ashdown Forest. Head down to the coast and spend the day in Brighton or visit some of the country’s finest vineyards and National Trust properties in the surrounding countryside.

Leave a reviewMy husband booked this as a surprise getaway for our Anniversary. As soon as we met the hosts David & Katharine we knew it was going to be good. They were so welcoming and warm. The asparagus garden is in a beautiful setting, very private and quiet and felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. All you can hear is birds in the bushes & trees. The accommodation itself was lovely, really cute with everything you could need. It was warm & cosy. The hosts had thought of everything to make it comfortable. Perfect kitchenette with even a bottle of milk from a local farm, alongside a few lovely bits and bobs supplied x good bathroom, with shower, great comfortable bed with lovely bedding and a lovely wood burner with plenty of wood supplied. We felt our shoulders drop as soon as we arrived and got settled and were completely relaxed. The little nearby village is like stepping back in time, with friendly locals, a fabulous cafe, and pub which we walked to and from in the evening. Waking up in the mornings, opening the wooden shutters and laying in the comfy bed with a cuppa was perfect. Just listening to and watching the birds and the rain on the roof. Was just so relaxing. James had booked for 2 nights but we asked if we could stay another night as we just didn’t want to leave. Luckily we were able to and again David & Katharine were very accommodating with this. An altogether amazing stay which we have already recommended to friends x

Me and my partner wanted somewhere peaceful and tranquil to go and this place was perfect. It had everything you needed, plus some extra little pleasures (big marshmallows and hot chocolate). David and Katherine were perfect hosts, we knew that if we needed anything they were on hand. I will happily recommend this place to my friends/family.

Booked for 3 nights as a birthday treat to get away from it all & destress. Worked wonders. Beautifully presented shepherds hut & everything you need is provided. Fantastic shower, super soft duvet & a well stocked kitchenette. David & Katherine are wonderful hosts and can provide a lot of info on the local area if you want to explore - but I was happy to just while away the hours, sat in front of the log burner with a mug of tea & a good book. It’s an easy 15 min stroll to the village of East Hoathly and the food in Muffins Cafe didn’t disappoint - huge portions! If the weather is good there is a secluded outdoor area with a fire pit - but I only utilised the microwave during my stay. Basics such as tea, coffee & milk were thoughtfully provided as well as a few little extra treats. I also liked the addition of the portable DVD player and caught up with a few box sets during my stay. I did venture as far as Staverton Nursery which was a lovely garden centre and can recommend their cafe too. Really enjoyed my stay at The Asparagus Garden - left feeling totally relaxed and will definitely be visiting again.

We had an amazing stay in this cosy home. David & Katharine were incredible hosts, providing local information on hikes & everything we needed to have a comfortable stay. This is a great weekend away, drinking wine by the fire place & relaxing in a beautiful area. The facilities are everything you need, it's a very quiet area & good local pubs for dinners/drinks. Highly recommend staying here, in the winter it offers a cosy getaway for a quiet weekend, and in the summer you can utilise the outdoor area.
