Ideal as a romantic getaway, the horsebox is completely private, ensuring you and your loved one can unwind together in style. However, the pull-out sofa-bed offers sleeping space for two more, as long as the four of you don’t mind sharing one open plan space.
This converted vintage horsebox sits on a raised hill offering panoramic views of the surrounding South Downs scenery. Enjoy a perfect night’s sleep with just owl hoots to lull you, then wake to birdsong and take in the views across the National Park.
Inside, the box is quaint and cosy. A sofa sits next to the double doors, which you can leave open in summer to let the outside in. However, on cooler days, keep the doors closed and light the wood-burning fireplace, which ensures you stay toasty and warm as you put your feet up with a good book.
Just off the seating area is a small kitchenette, which is equipped with a stove, fridge and toaster, ensuring you can prepare tasty meals during your stay. You can then dine together at the breakfast bar, or picnic on the lush green grass outside. You’ll also find that electric lighting, sockets and charging points add a homely touch to this glamping retreat.
When night falls, there’s a superb king size bed at one end of the horsebox. Super-comfy bedding combines with the tranquil location to ensure you get a great night’s sleep, waking up refreshed and ready to venture out and explore the undulating countryside around you. The fold-out sofa bed ensures two more guests can stay if needed. You and your loved ones will also have exclusive access to a separate shower and compost toilet, which are located just outside the horsebox.

What a quirky, rural and tranquil stay. This was a treat for my horsey Mum’s 80th and despite the weather not being that kind, it didn’t detract from the uniqueness of this stay. The horse box is equipped with everything you might need and the wood burner stove was surprisingly effective & and easy to use (Mum was the driving force here!). But my favourite elements were all outside. As I woke in the morning & peeped out of the double windows, I saw a huge rabbit about a metre away, followed by baby rabbits playing, squirrels foraging and a coal tit swinging upside down from a tree. A surprisingly comfy hammock, Weber BBQ and decking with seating complimented the horse box. The compost toilet took some getting used to but followed the environmentally friendly theme and the shower is definitely an experience! A mix of back to nature versus luxury, with a chance to observe wildlife through the hatch feeling kind of liberating. Steyning is only a 10/15 minute walk with a range of unusual shops (ideal for gifts), can recommend Mamma Mia Italian (simple but welcoming surroundings with fabulous food) and Cobblestones Tea House for brunch (suggest you arrive feeling very hungry - the English breakfast is amazing). Overall, such a lovely, fun, different stay, away from the normalities of everyday life. Battery charging stuff.
