The detail

Perfectly located for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, Porte House is a charming Georgian townhouse offering plenty of history, character and luxury. The Grade II listed period house was completely refurbished in 2019 to provide guests with the best of both worlds. Beautiful Georgian features, high ceilings and antique furniture are complemented by the luxuries of modern living.

Step in from the cobbled streets of Richmond into the elegant entrance hall with its impressive high ceiling and grand staircase up to the first floor. Directly off the hall, you’ll find the dining room with a beautiful antique table and a log burner, making the perfect setting for extravagant dinners on cosy evenings. The kitchen looks out over the courtyard at the back of the house and is fully equipped to help you rustle up the family favourites after long days exploring the Yorkshire Dales. You’ll have an electric Aga, dishwasher, large fridge freezer and a wine fridge at your disposal.

Head upstairs to find the sitting room, the perfect spot to put your feet up in front of a roaring fire after a long walk. The master bedroom is also located on the first floor, with a luxurious king-size bed and decorated in relaxing tones. There are two more double rooms on the second floor, one with a king-size bed, an original fireplace and stunning views out over the rolling hills of Yorkshire. The other is also full of character with wooden beams and a sumptuous double bed. The bathroom is also located on this floor and features a luxurious slipper bath and a separate walk-in rainfall shower.

Outside, there is a South facing courtyard, which is a sun trap the summer. Sit out late into the evening with some cocktails or fire up the barbecue. There’s a wood store and a brazier to keep you warm as the sun sets. You’ll also find the Den in the courtyard, with comfy seating and a small fire for cosy afternoons. The courtyard is fully enclosed, making it perfect for families who want to bring the dog along.

Known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, there’s no shortage of things to do in Richmond and the surrounding area. In the town itself, there are museums, a castle, a cobbled marketplace, pubs, shops and restaurants to discover. Take the dog for a walk along the River Swale and stop off at the award-winning bakery at The Station. Explore the picturesque landscape of the Yorkshire Dales National Park on foot, or you can rent bikes for the day.
