Odd Ways offers an amazing rural retreat for families in the heart of the New Forest National Park. Located at the end of a tiny lane, and surrounded by thick, ancient forests on all sides, with wild ponies and song birds nearby, this beautiful property allows you and your loved ones to get back to nature. The owner is a New Forest pony collector and her friendly herd are woven into the spirit or this house. They evoke the romance of old forest legends and fables, wild rides and long friendships.
Inside, Odd Ways features a paired back, simple design, that makes use of gentle colours and lots of large open spaces. The big windows floods the house with natural light, and offer nice views wherever you look. The big living room has sliding doors that open up onto the garden, as well as three giant, super-comfy sofas for social evenings in. There’s also a log burning fireplace, so you can stay nice and warm in winter and a TV.
There are four bedrooms in the main house, all of which feature wonderful, comfy beds, and stylish design features. Three of these feature striking four poster super-king sized beds, whilst the fourth has a comfy five foot double. One bedroom also has its own en suite bathroom, whilst there is a pretty family bathroom complete with a big bath tub.
The spacious kitchen is nicely equipped. It features all the amenities you could need as well as a nice big farmhouse table in its centre, where you can sit and keep the designated chef company, or dine together when dinner’s ready.
At the bottom of the garden field you'll find an extra bedroom. A railway carriage hut - available for 4 weeks during high summer. It's rough luxe camping. Deep bed, pristine sheets, a pot-belly stove and kettle...open its doors wide and bathe in ancient trees, green silence and stars. The wild ponies will interrupt you as they drink in the quiet stream that flows here.
There is a big garden around the house. Approximately 1 acre. It also has a good mid-size terrace seating area. There is an unfenced trampoline here.
There is a BBQ area, charcoal is provided to start you off. The BBQ is campfire type with hanging plate to cook on over a tripod. There is a charcoal bucket to cook in underneath.
The garden area has been changed since pictures were taken in 2020. Now the garden has been refenced and does not include the field with the Railway Carriage area unless you are also renting it. Instead, there is a grassy yard area under huge oak trees behind the stables. There is a camp fire area here, the trampoline, and a separate field further back for children to play in. It's a larger area than it was before - approx 1.5 acres.
If you head out, you have all of the New Forest to explore! This peaceful, beautiful part of the country is awash with quaint walking routes and pretty wildlife. The village of Beaulieu is a nice walk from your door, and takes you through plenty of picturesque scenery. The village itself is lovely, and is home to some quaint cafes as well as the Beaulieu Estate and Car Museum. Lymington is also a 15 minute drive away, whilst the nearest beach at Tanners is just an eight minute drive. The quiet and peaceful beach of Thorns is well worth a visit also.
Horse riding for adults and children is good locally and nearby. Cycle hire is 3 miles away and they will drop bikes to the house.
Please expect our short stays to be 60%+ of our week prices. We are not a hotel and it takes a huge amount of work, especially with COVID around, to make the house clean and right for guests. Kids in travel cots stay free.
The prices above give a guide only. In peak season the price can be higher than the 'to' price shown here. We use a dynamic pricing structure which means prices can fluctuate slightly on a daily basis. Pricing depends on demand for this house and across the area. We cannot guarantee the prices quoted today will be the same in the future.
The Railway Carriage bedroom is charged as extra from April to end Sept and available only for 4 weeks of the year. * SOLD FOR 2021.
You can BYO horses here.
The shelter and field is ONLY usable June, Jul, Aug and early Sept if the weather is dry. Cost is 25 per horse. The field is 1 acre and has meadow grass. It is pretty weed free. The fencing is good but there is barbed wire fencing down 1 side. The wild ponies cannot touch noses with horses in the paddock, but the neighbours horses can. The stable is 12 x 12ft and is 80. There is only one. Please bring your horse bedding, hay etc.
