Relax and unwind in this tranquil and unique eco-home, offering great access to some of Scotland’s most charming countryside. The Hobbit Hideaway in Scotland’s Speyside was created from nature with renewable materials sourced from the surrounding area. This pretty, and comfortable holiday home seeks to inspire inner peace and tranquility.
Sleeping up to six guests, the property has been constructed using straw bales, round wood, stone, earth, and clay so that it blends into its environment. Despite its completely eco-friendly build, comfort and design has not been compromised. Insulation is provided by materials as diverse as volcanic rock and recycled car windscreens. The amount of earth used ensures that the building acts as a storage heater that maintains a consistent temperature inside all year round.
Stepping inside Hobbit Hideaway is like walking into another world. There are nooks and crannies to be discovered everywhere, with each bit of space utilised to its maximum potential. A hand-built cob snuggle seat sits next to the wood burning stove, while the dining table and chairs sit under the spectacular roof dome window that allows the sun and moonlight in. There’s a fully equipped kitchen with modern amenities and a bowl of fresh, seasonal fruit, as well as Fair Trade coffee and tea.
Leading off the social space is the double bedroom, which is complete with a luxury bamboo mattress on the large bed. A clever second bedroom has two quirky bunks with individual curtains and bamboo mattresses. Finally, the two comfy futons act as a seating area during the day, but also convert into extra sleeping spaces with a bamboo screen for privacy. There’s also a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower.
