Experience the northern lights in all their glory at Aurora Safari Camp, a one-of-a-kind escape in Swedish Lapland. Located by the Rane River, there is no artificial light making it the ideal spot to see the famous aurora borealis and gaze at the stars.
Founded and owned by photographer Fredrik Broman, you have the chance to do photography workshops during your stay, while the camp itself is committed to being eco-friendly with no electrical light, and solar cells and led providing everything needed.
There are 3 lavvu rooms available, which are hired on a private basis as an unforgettable getaway for family or friends. These tepee-style abodes can either be set up as a twin or double bedroom, or as a family room sleeping up to 5. Inside each has wooden flooring, comfy seating and a firewood heater - meaning that even when temperatures outside reach as low as -37 C it is still warm and cosy inside.
There is a separate washroom onsite and also the main social hub of the camp. Guests can meet here for a drink or a bite to eat, with fine dining for up to 14 people able to be arranged by the hosts. Outside the lounge is a fireplace and further seating area, while the floating sauna frozen into the ice of the river is a truly unique experience, with guests able to relax and watch the night sky.
Sitting just behind Aurora Safari Camp is the forest and caped mountain. With snowshoes, kicksleds and snow mountain bikes, known as fatbikes, included guests can explore the surrounding area. Treks up the mountain and down to the lake and semi-frozen rapid are popular and offer a good chance of glimpsing wildlife such as moose, red fox and doe deer. There is also the opportunity for ice sculpting, while the more adventurous can go on dogsleigh tours with Siberian huskies, or guided snowshoe and snowmobile expeditions.
There is still plenty to do in the summer months as well, as when the ice has melted there is classic Canadian canoeing, or white water rafting and kayaking.
