This gorgeously renovated Scottish lodge is situated perfectly on the western fringes of the Cairngorm Mountains, overlooking the famous River Spey, offering arresting views of the highland vistas. Old Milton - itself a former shooting lodge - not only boasts terrific scenery and a beautiful interior but also has its very own nine-hole golf course. And if chasing birdies isn't your thing then not to worry, because you will also have access to your very own tennis court and croquet lawn - among other outdoor features. So, whether it's a bit of friendly competition, a chance to soak up some of the loveliest countryside the UK has to offer, or just a chance to kick back and relax indoors, Old Milton has every base covered.
The house has been lovingly renovated with an interior crafted to hark back to its historical roots, all the while maintaining a modern and functionalist air. Each room has been carefully designed with its own character in mind, while still maintaining an aesthetic consistency throughout. Think roaring fires, sleek wood-panelled rooms, and a classic-meets-contemporary decor.
Old Milton has seven double bedrooms, six bathrooms, a self-contained bothy, and can sleep up to 16 people. The large island kitchen comes fully equipped and the house also includes a large dining room, complete with highchairs for the wee ones! Wi-Fi is available throughout. The property has a huge amount of outdoor space, along with an outdoor decking area and large hot tub.
Besides the on-site activities, the surrounding area has plenty to see and do. Cairngorms National Park has some of the most picturesque walks and hikes in the UK, making it ideal for those who just love to wander (your hosts will be all too happy to suggest some of their favourite routes). Loch Insh is just a couple of miles north of Old Milton, providing a multitude of water-sports options. A 30-minute drive away is the popular resort town of Aviemore, known for its winter sports and hill walking. A variety of (child-friendly) activities are available all year round, such as archery, kayaking, gorge walking, climbing and abseiling at Craggan House, a trip on the Strathspey Steam Railway, or a visit to the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd. If it is a taste of urban life that you're after, then the historic town of Inverness is an hour's drive north.

Leave a reviewWe had an absolutely amazing stay at the Old Milton. The property itself is beautiful, with 7 large double bedrooms all with their own bathroom, plus the bothy and shepherds hut outside - it is the perfect house for a large gathering! The house had everything you could want for a stay up in the highlands, including the hot tub, sledges and golf clubs provided by the host. The house is in a beautiful setting with easy access to the Cairngorms for skiing or hiking. The hosts were very polite and lovely to interact with. They were very relaxed with arranging for payments and also assured us of COVID cancellation which made the booking process stress-free. I would fully recommend a stay at the Old Milton and hope to return soon!
