This beautiful home offers the best of both worlds with a large enclosed garden which backs on to open countryside, and only a short stroll from a sandy beach. It would be perfect for a family holiday, a group of friends or anyone wanting to relax, while the dogs and children roam free in the garden.
The whole atmosphere is calm and serene, with full length windows in the sitting room which let in the sun and the sea air. The owners have seamlessly blended the traditional cosy cottage with a modern extension creating a light, bright home brimming with character. With high ceilings and exposed timbers in the extension there's a feeling of the seaside brought into the house, and when it's time to curl up in front of the fire, the thatched cottage portion of the property is delightfully snug.
The interior has been simply and elegantly decorated with great care and attention. Side tables are perfectly placed for that glass of wine, armchairs have convenient reading lamps and there's a fabulous living area with a large library to choose from. Plenty of paperback beach reads and a shelf of board games will keep you occupied if you'd like some time away from screens.
The kitchen is large and modern with a door leading out to the garden and is fully equipped for cooking up a feast. The dining room has a big wooden country kitchen table nestled in front of an open fire place and is perfect for celebratory meals or long lazy suppers.
There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, one with a super-king size bed and one with two single beds. The rooms are light, fresh and comfortable. You'll also find a wet room with direct access to the patio and a hall with a downstairs toilet.
Upstairs are two additional bedrooms. The first has twin beds and an en-suite with a bath tub and hand held shower. And the second has a king-size and an en-suite shower, so no queuing in the morning!
The garden is particularly lovely. Large and completely enclosed so you can relax as the dogs or children run around and play but backing on to beautiful countryside if you fancy a big walk. There's also a table for al fresco dining and the space is perfect for early evening drinks, capturing the sun perfectly from 6pm.
It's a short five minute stroll to one of West Wittering's lesser known and very beautiful beaches with sand dunes and beach huts flanked by the National Trust East Head. All you need is a bucket and spade for a good day out with the kids but there's plenty more on offer. For thrill-seekers it's is an ideal place to learn or practice your surfing, SUPing, windsurfing or kite-surfing, and there is a school on hand, at one end of the beach, that can offer training and hire equipment.
The village of West Wittering is a short distance inland, and is a sleepy, picturesque spot with a lovely church. The town of Chichester is just three miles away, so close at hand for cultural pursuits, shopping and dining. The Goodwood Estate is easily accessible from here (about a 20 minute drive), with events taking place throughout the season.
If you don't fancy cooking there are lots of dining options with Billy's On The Beach (at nearby Bracklesham Bay) which has a relaxed beach vibe and offers breakfast, lunch, coffee and cakes. The Boat House at Chichester Harbour is great for watching the sailors coming and going. The Anchor Bleu in the tiny village of Bosham is a beautiful old pub with views over the harbour – but be careful where you park! The tides can be deceiving and have caught some drivers out. Only a short distance away from the shore, but still in Wittering, the Lamb Inn is a lovely traditional pub that prides itself on offering local ingredients, and has pretty garden with a play area – great for families.
