In the busy centre of incredible Cape Town, the Grand Daddy Hotel has earned its status as a local landmark. Featuring a rooftop cinema, bar and a selection of gorgeous Airstream trailers (yes, they are all on the roof), this boutique hotel will show you the Western Cape capital like nowhere else.

Beautifully decorated throughout, the Grand Daddy sits in full view of Table Mountain on Cape Town’s Long Street. There was a hotel on the site as far back as 1895, when the imposing corner building was known as Hotel Metropole. Now, the Grand Daddy is one of the best places in town, with its Grand Daddy and Sugar Daddy suites offering a real taste of luxury.

The Grand Daddy Suite has its own garden patio, lounge, travertine marble bathrooms and a fantastic king-size bed – and that’s just the start. The Sugar Daddy has an open-plan living area and bedroom, Juliet balcony overlooking Long Street and either a king-sized bed or 2 singles, and both have all the amenities you would want – satellite TV, minibar, tea and coffee, Wi-Fi and air-conditioning among them. With room for 2 children in the Grand, or 3 in the Sugar, these are great for families too.

The beautiful interior design of the Daddy’s other rooms is just as impressive, with the colours and textures making every one of them feel special. You can overlook the city or the inner courtyard. Then again, you might just want to take that vintage elevator right to the top and check yourself into an Airstream trailer.

Seven gleaming silver vehicles have been renovated into some seriously awesome accommodation, each one based around a different theme. The largest, Grape Escape, looks to South Africa’s Winelands for inspiration. There’s safari, gold and beach-themed trailers... even one with an aviation theme. Whichever you choose, you’ll enjoy a queen-size bed, TV, fridge and wet-room shower, plus some great city views.

The Grand Daddy also packs in some flavoursome international dishes at its Thirty Ate restaurant, alongside some tempting local favourites. The cool Sky Bar and Pink Flamingo rooftop cinema, where classic movies are the order of the day, accompany the one-of-a-kind trailer park. A whole roof full of fun you will want to be part of.

Within a 30-minute walk of Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, the hotel is surrounded by a lively district full of shops, bars and restaurants – and with the Table Mountain National Park as a vast, verdant backdrop, this city really has everything going for it. If you’ve never been, why not treat yourself and do Cape Town Grand Daddy-style.
