The detail

Escape to New Zealand and head to the magical South Island where you’ll find an abundance of wildlife set against picture-perfect horizons. Journey down the forest coast and away from the bustling tourist trail and hidden amongst the heart of the land is the Kaikoura peninsula and its magnificent mountain range. Look out for the darting deer grazing on the plains or for the dancing dolphins and the worldly whales. With an untouched coastline and epic mountain peaks, it is a special place with a breath-taking scene.

The Hapuku Lodge and Treehouses are part of this legendary landscape and have been designed to blend in with their natural habitat. Local Manuka wood has been used to excellent effect and compliments the deluxe interiors and their stunning outlooks. Sink-in to the bespoke Hapuku beds or into the two-person spa baths, before lighting the fire and gazing at the star-lit skyline.

The lodge itself offers boutique hotel accommodation with two exclusive suites and two sumptuous double bedrooms. Finished with an exquisite attention to detail and a modern country air, they are cosy retreats that have plenty of flair. The two lodge suites can sleep up to three people with one double bedroom and an additional roll-out mattress. Stylish living and sleeping areas provide acres of space, and have doors opening out over the dramatic mountain range. The two smaller rooms are both of equal stature and have plush furnishings and massive double mattresses.

If you want the luxury of the suites but with an added hint of adventure then the Hapuku treehouses offer a unique experience. Boasting designer bathrooms and working electricity, there is no compromise on comfort when you’re hiding out in the canopy. For groups of up to five, there is the family treehouse that has two quirky bedrooms spread across two different stories. For a romantic treat and an unforgettable couple’s escape, the one-bedroom treehouses have plenty of space.

For that added bit of room, there is even the larger Olive House Apartment that has space for up to two adults and three young children. With a lovely kitchen and living area and a two-sided balcony, you can watch the sunrise and sunset in complete and utter tranquillity.

If you can tear yourself away from your blissful lodgings then there is an abundance to enjoy in the local gardens. Sit out by the lap pool or relax in the sauna, before treating yourself to a meal in the hotel restaurant. With an abundance of fresh, local food and the finest wine options, you can dine on delicious seafood or hearty game dishes.

When you’re ready to explore, there is an endless tapestry to unravel full of beautiful marine life and mountainous coastlines. Head inland for an authentic Maori experience or travel to the golden beaches and their crystal clear waters. With nothing and nobody to interrupt your thoughts, you can get to know the heart and soul of New Zealand’s natural world.
