Modelled in the Spanish Colonial style, Villa Ibis is a gorgeous one-level villa with lots of luxurious extras and would be perfect for a family or friends holiday in this beautiful part of Panama. With warm ochre terracotta tiles, white walls and traditional dark wood furniture, the décor is simple, stylish and cool and the owners have added some beautiful artwork and soft furnishings to make it feel like home from home.
On arrival you'll find a pretty courtyard with an ornamental fountain set within a lovely tropical landscaped garden. When you enter the villa you'll see cathedral ceilings with wooden fans promising to keep you cool throughout your stay.
The villa was built 20 years ago and has recently been remodelled so the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need from that first morning coffee to a sumptuous evening meal. The bathrooms have also been stylishly remodelled.
All three bedrooms have been lovingly decorated and there's definitely a tropical beach vibe going on with one room boasting a large fabulous triptych of an octopus! There's a king size bed in the master suite, which has sliding doors out to the pool; twins in the second that can be converted into a king size and the third room has oversized twins, perfect for friends sharing or kids. All three rooms have private ensuite bathrooms and there is another guest bathroom off the main hallway.
The living area is very cosy with a soft sofa, low rattan chairs and the owners have thoughtfully placed a bird spotting scope so you can check out the incredible bird-life on the lake.
But the hub of the home is the undercover terrace, which has two hammocks you can laze in. It's the perfect spot for gathering for a pre-dinner drink and enjoying the lustrous garden bedecked with verdant tropical plants and coconut palms with a magnificent view of the pretty lake, which is just a few steps from the back terrace. There's also a six seater dining table as well as a gas BBQ, two luxurious sunbeds where you can relax and unwind with a glass of wine or a good book and watch the birds go by.
The beautiful garden has a private pool and jacuzzi complete with tanning deck (also perfect for smaller children), where you can cool down on a hot day and dry off on one of the sunbeds or have a snooze whilst someone else takes care of dinner. As well as the fabulous kitchen there are two, yes two, BBQs outside. One gas, one charcoal, so stock up on some local fare and fire up!
Whilst it would be easy to stay in the villa for the entire holiday there's plenty to do and see within the resort. Buenaventura is Panama’s premier gated resort and has its own Marriott Hotel. Guests are welcome to use the pools, restaurants, bars and facilities at the hotel. For a livelier vibe, there’s the El Faro beach club, with direct beach access, various pools, bar, restaurant and water activities such as jet ski rental.
Beyond the hotel and beach club the resort offers every activity possible from playing a round of golf on the Jack Nicklaus Golf Course to a yoga session to a sunrise hike, or horse-riding at the equestrian centre. The kids can check out the games room and candy bar while you pick out some fine wine and treats in the delicatessen. You can visit the resort zoo, take a sailboat ride, surf, or go scuba diving. The whole of this fabulous luxury resort is at your disposal.
The beach is a 10 minute walk from the Villa, or a couple of minutes in the car and a perfect place to take the beach chairs and sit and watch the waves. You can walk for up to 3km, recommended at cooler times of the day before you return home for an evening of BBQing in the garden.
And if all you want to do is to relax and be pampered, there’s a fabulous spa for treatments and massages, plus a hairdresser and nail salon. There are a host of restaurants to choose from serving everything from eclectic Panamanian food to tacos and sushi. There’s also the food truck at the beach for a lunchtime snack, (open every weekend).
Leaving the resort, you're a 45 minute drive from El Valle where there are many activities such as hiking, zip-lining, bird watching and a butterfly and flower house. And at the end of the day, you have your private tropical paradise to return to.
